i think its only polite for guys to pay for the date...
like what my friend and i always say:
"i won't give my girl any burden"...
as for the budget, i'll say depend on the situation...
eg:
like now i'm not working (in poly):
20 to 40 on normal date,
150 to 200 (present included) for special event (x'mas, valentine, etc..)
if i got a stable job or so:
50 to 100 on normal date,
200 to 500 on special event...
of course, with such a budget,
i don't expect us to go on date every single day...
maybe bout once or twice a week...

If u wanna make a good impression on the girl, then I suggest u don't be a cheapskate. Pay for everything. Later when u are seriously dating, then maybe can allow her to pay for some things eg movie tickets. Dun have to spend a lot, some dates can be cheap- go biking, swimming, hiking, picnic, window shopping etc

Normally I will try to pay... depending on the characteristic of the gal lor... some like to go dutch even if you wanna pay for them. Normally will try to restrict my budget to S$100 unless it's a special occasion when we of course are willing to pay more.
