Hi fellow forummers,
There are a few ways to be come a private limousine driver. One of the better way is through the phrases of getting thru the taxi industry, (build a better clientele base infrastructure).
Most of the Pte Limo drivers i know started from the taxi industry. Well, most of us started as normall cabbies, before turning into limousine cabs or Maxicabs. If you are successful (in terms of huge clientele base) & with some resources (capital), the next stage, is the limousine(s) you owned and service passengers we choose. No more street pickup. All passengers at limousine rates.

Why pay $$$ amount as daily rental to taxis companies ?
The new E250 CDI is price @$160 per day.
Excluding hirer bonus, you will be pay $160 x 365 days = $58,400.
For 7 years of Taxi business vehicle lifespan (with 1 year optional) = $58,400 x 7 yrs. You will be paying $408,000 to the taxi company....
Which u can buy 3 Mercedes Benz Viano on PH plates.
& at the end of the 7 years life span of the taxi vehicle, they (taxis companies) will give you another Mercedes-Benz limousine cab at a higher daily rental.....
Whereas @ the end of your financing loan with the financial institution or banks, the private limousine vehicle belongs to you.... not the taxi company after paying $408k.
Fellow TD normal cabs don't be dishearted,
many of the limousine drivers started from normal cab driving, after that, upgraded to driving limousine cabs.
From there, if you have the marketing mind, you would build your own clientele base thru the years.
In Limo forum, we encourage our forummers to go for it....
which forums shared so much trade's secret than us ?
It took me a strong courage to turn limousine those time.
If not because of YOG, maybe I'm still driving normalsine.
In order to survive in this small circle, we are force to learn all ways to be a better limousine drivers.
I'm still very new, only anything pertaining to Comfort, I can tell you inside out, other than that, still had to monkey see, monkey do.
so you mean limo drivers own that limo that they are driving and they are not under any taxi company?

Even for the New hirer for Hyundai Sonata are rumouring priced @ $120 daily rental... which meant... 1 year (excluding hirer's driving bonus & rebates), the cost of rental is $43,800.
7 years of lifespan = $306,600. paid for a Korean Made Sonata...
So,
Taxi driving - is ONLY a stepping stone for ppl with great ambitions.
Why pay huge amount to the taxis companies when the $306,600 accummulated rental one pays for 7 years of lifespan for a Hyundai Sonata - he can even pays for a Mercedes Benz S Class.

As per your earlier Question.....
Limo drivers can be employed by respective companies..... (the bigger ones like C&P)
And these companies owned the vehicles.
Many of the Pte Limousine drivers in the industry started their trade with 1 vehicle, slowly expand if they have the means (in terms of business & financial supports). Some of 2 vehicles (employing 1 driver) and some have even more.
As for myself, I have 1 vehicle and of course, the vehicle is owned by me.
Hopefully, this post answered your question.
Actually one can always start changing the mindset from normalsine, sure every td will claim normalsine pax are cheapos but are ALL of them are?
It's just like when the public always claim TDs are a bunch of rude and uneducated bunch of uncles.. but are All of us so?
Differentiate yourself early in a positive way is the first step a TD should take IF he/she is looking to pave the milky way to the end of a dark tunnel... Grumbling, scolding, cursing, slapping, shouting is not going to bring you anywhere...
Your next pax who is wearing a singlet with berms and slipper could jolly well be a that special someone... no? CEO must wear tie and coats everywhere?
Who knows that special one pax could well justify your entry to the limo industry whether it's a limo cab or pte limo or best.. travel normalsine yet willing to pay you a limo fare hahaha :p

That's very true my friend ahRichard....
I did (during my days as Limo TD), sweep the floor, and happened to pick a Ang Mo from Tampines... (Ang Mo goes down to town mah... )...
He happened to be a regional CEO of a big corporation just posted here (in 2008) for outstation. He still called me for Departure and or Arrival even for 1 pax... (in a big vehicle)..
How often can you get a pax of that category ? You may not even meet one in 6 months. You want Pax to call you only when it is raining or cannot get a cab ?
Me not a lelong limo driver. I don't do jobs below market rates. I rather stays at home and login SgForums and replying post(s) to ahRichard....

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has completed its vehicle growth rate review, and will cut vehicle growth rate progressively for the next three years
The annual vehicle population growth rate will be lowered from the current 1.5% to 1.0% in 2012, and then to 0.5% in 2013 and 2014. For 2012, the 1% p.a. growth will be front-loaded, with the current 1.5% p.a. growth rate maintained for the first half of the quota year (February 2012 to July 2012), followed by 0.5% p.a. growth rate for the remaining half of the quota year (August 2012 to January 2013). Overall, the growth rate for the new 3-year quota period is therefore 1.5% p.a. for the first 6 months, followed by 0.5% p.a. growth rate for the remaining 2.5 years.
According to the LTA, the current annual vehicle population growth rate of 1.5% has outstripped the average annual road growth of about 1% in recent years. As road growth is expected to slow down to about 0.5% p.a. on average over the next decade, it is not sustainable to maintain the vehicle growth rate at 1.5%. The lower vehicle growth rate will be more closely aligned to the pace of road growth going forward.
The lower vehicle growth rate is not expected to have a large impact on the COE supply in the next few years, especially in the context of an expected uptrend in vehicle de-registration numbers. The annual vehicle population growth rate will be reviewed after three years, and the COE quota for the COE bidding period from February 2012 to July 2012 will be announced in mid-January 2012.

Certificate of entitlement (COE) prices for cars continued to defy gravity at the latest tender on Wednesday.
COE for cars up to 1,600cc and taxis ended at $58,501, up from $56,501 two weeks ago. The premium for cars above 1,600cc closed at $83,700, up from $82,003. Open COE, which can be used to register any type of vehicle but ends up mainly for bigger cars, rose from $80,101 to finish at $84,590.
These premiums remain the highest since the mid-1990s.
The rate for commercial vehicles ended at a new high of $53,989, up from $51,511. The motorcycle COE was the only one that ended lower. It dipped to $1,896, from $2,000.
