Hi to all:)
Being a noob and knowing next to nothing, I asked a few questions in the TD thread, after which I viewed this thread. A very interesting one indeed and I note your guys are very helpful and wikking to offer advice. I am about to apply for a TDVL course this week and have a few questions to ask off you.
1. Can I start my career driving a limousine? I can bear with losses due to the steep learning curve so this is not so much of a problem.
2. How much money should I put aside for deposit, rental, fuel, car park charges, insurance, GPS, ERP charges, and any others not listed.
3. Is it necessary that all drivers need to wear ties while driving?
4. How many hours of driving is required before being able to cover the daily expenses? Will it be longer than a normal taxi?
Thank you in advance.

Hi Bro iCricket, you may consider reading the below thread for more indications.
http://sgforums.com/forums/4148/topics/450015
I assumed that you are refering to a Pte Limo Career rather than a Limousine cab TD as taxis don't need to pay for Road tax & Vehicle insurance.
Before you decided going limousine career & getting a business vehicle - did you ever considered that you may have overlook one great factor - the clientele base ? w/o the revenue, there is no way that you can survive in the industry.
If you finished reading the related threads, then i will come back to you for more information. Me needing to leave the forum now as job just came in.
Cheers. (the life of Pte Limo is like that one....) rest at home (shake legs)... when phone rang - rush out.
Hi bro Jdl, thank you for taking the trouble to reply. It is definitely out of the question for me to start off as a Pte Limo Driver without the support of enough clients.
I guess I need to build up my customer base although I do have some good contacts which I am sure can assist me. It is not enough I think for me to start so I will have to consider the limousine TD route. Hope you can offer some ideas on how to go about it as I am quite loss, not having driven in Singapore for many years. There has been so much changes since I last drove in Singapore (7 years to be exact).
Maybe after a year or so (best when COE is low) before I change permanently to be a private hirer armed with sufficient clientele base.:)
There are some Pte Limo drivers whom didn't went thru the Taxi driving industry and yet be sucessful in the industry, but those minority are slaved to the jobs co-ordinators giving them a hard time as they have zero clientele base.
Rome is not build within a day --- quoted by TS Bro MM069 (he, also, like you, haven't even sit for the TDVL yet , but he has the determination to be successful which is, a good start in his self-motivation.
Many of the Private Limousine guys I knew in the industry had TD experiences. Road exposures are very important as a limousine driver, whom supposed to know most of the landmarks in the city at your back of your mind.
Hence, my advice to you and MM069 is to get some experiences from normal cabs, then upgrade to a limousine cab or Maxi cab and do your own marketing.
Once, you have sufficient clientele bases, then you may consider to upgrade your service into Private limousine at your own leisure. Even if you failed to make it in Pte Limo sector, you still got the TDVL to fall back on.
If next door forum (TD) don't give you a satisfactory advice, you may open a thread here (limo forum) and we can give you the best advice we would. Good Luck.
Thank you bro Jdl, I really do appreciate your efforts to help others and I will do as per your advice. Once again, thank you.:)
