uhh.. it was a common thing to eat "this kind of thing" in the past
just like in south america, it's a common thing to eat guinea pigs, in korea it's dogs...

yes they are ... I loved them once upon a time too .... but now I prefer to see sharks up close and personal while wearing a tank underneath the ocean ..... and to see swallows flying free in the sky .... have you ever seen dead baby swallows washed up on the seashore somewhere, victims of some unethical poachers who took the nests and simply tipped the baby birdies into the sea ? .... sharksfin = cartilege...
therefore, if you boil your toenails long enough, you get the SAME THING as the sharksfin... they have NO TASTE whatsoever anyway... people are conned into eating the thing because of snob appeal... it's the goddamned broth that gives it the taste
birdnest = protein
a TCM university said that it is totally useless... you're better off eating some egg white for protein... however, in birdnest, there's a lot of feathers, bits of mites, pollen, and all kinds of microscopic crap, including actual guano of the bird stuck in the solidified saliva.. may cause asthmatic attacks...
