The Oktoberfest in Munich is the largest people's fair worldwide. In 2012 almost seven million people attended the festival. As you can see it is all about beer. Cheers!
The 179th Oktoberfest started on Saturday 22nd at 12 p.m. when Munich's mayor Christian Ude tapped the first keg.
And then the beer started flowing...
Oktoberfest is a bit like carnival: Everyone dresses up. This woman is indeed an eyecatcher
Especially during the first weekend a lot of VIPs show up. Here we have the German actresses Christine Neubauer and Anja Kruse wearing fancy Dirndls.
But there is also room for tradition
Finally an occasion to wear the traditional Bavarian hat.
Even the youngest wear 'Dirndls' and 'Lederhosen'
Not everything at the Oktoberfest is about beer. There's also cotton candy, hearts made of gingerbread and other sweet stuff
Not to mention the amusement park. We do not recommend the rollercoaster after drinking more than one glass of beer
One of the beer-tent-owners even recruits his very own yodeller to attract more guests
The Oktoberfest is the perfect place to find new friends. But you might not recognize them the next day
Since the tents are very crowded a lot of people prefer to stay outside and relax on a meadow
Especially if they had too much beer. You have to keep in mind that Oktoberfest-beer is quite strong containing 5.8 to 6.3 percent alcohol
This year's Oktoberfest will end on October 7th.
