KTMB station in Tanjong Pagar to relocate to Woodlands by 1 Jul 2011
SINGAPORE : The Prime Ministers of Malaysia and Singapore have agreed that the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB station) currently in operation at Tanjong Pagar will be relocated to the Woodlands train checkpoint by 1 July 2011.
Announcing this in a joint statement on
Monday in Singapore, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his Malaysian
counterpart Najib Razak also agreed that Malaysia would co-locate its
railway and Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) to the Woodlands
train checkpoint.
Singapore would facilitate the relocation to the Woodlands train
checkpoint and ensure bus service connectivity from the KTMB station at
Woodlands to a nearby MRT station for the convenience of train
passengers.
Both countries also announced that a company known as MS Pte Ltd will be
established as soon as practicable but not later than 31 December this
year.
Malaysia would hold a 60 per cent stake in this company under Khazanah
Nasional Berhard while Singapore will have a 40 per cent share to be
held by Temasek Holdings.
The three parcels of land in Tanjong Pagar, Kranji and Woodlands, and
another three pieces of land in Bukit Timah will be vested by MS Pte Ltd
for joint development which in turn could be swapped on the basis of
equivalent value for pieces of land in Marina South and/or Ophir-Rochor.
The joint statement says both sides will conduct their respective
valuations.
Prime Minister Lee will visit Kuala Lumpur within a month with a
proposal for the land swap for Malaysia.
The transfer of the land parcel to MS Pte Ltd will take effect at the
time when KTMB vacates the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station.

Making KTMB more inconvenience in the future..
OT: What abt the plan for Sg/Mal eastern crossing.??. Last yr May when both sides having this suggestion
As a railway fan, loyal to Keretapi Tanah Melayu, I felt that it is quite a harsh decision to relocate the station to Woodlands.
Sigh, but what can we do? We can't change their decision. In a money-minded city, railway nostalgia to them is nuts.
About friggin' time.
I've always felt that the Malaysians were holding on to Tanjong Pagar just so that they could stick it to us...
Simply put, they have always been in glee at cutting Singapore in half with their damn line....
It is actually a good thing. Well, at least there wont be have a weird map issue (Some part of Tanjong Pagar being labelled as empty / uncovered area due to Malaysian terrority)
If Singapore did not get independence, then I will surely hope to see the train stays. But until a remerger happens, this seemed to be the best solution. I think this is the done out of Singapore's security issue as well. (But oddly never hear people do drug trafficking in KTM, but on Changi Airport)
Now, lets us hope to see the NE2 can built from 2013......... 10 years away from the NEL operational date. (Just like Dover, 1999 start to built, 11 years away after the sector operates in 1988)
Tanjong Pagar is more close to the city area
We have affected of all this:
Tat means gotta enhance Sv 170 bet Woodlands Ctr & Kranji MRT le or either another SMRT sv for Marsiling.
In any case, we take back Upp Bt Timah/ Bt Timah/ Holland area but we giving up atas land in Rochor & Marina Bay to tis JV company.
Think there's something mentioned over fast rail project.
Now qns arise is over cargo train

used to be before Singapore built e Woodlands train checkpoint.
Ppl could easily throw drugs along the way esp along Woodlands Rd & Holland
quickly take photos
Well, I can tell you guys that this was prepared for already. A siding for locos and a loop line was constructed because of this, as well as the weird layout from Woodlands Centre Road exit.
However, I hope that Tanjung Pagar Railway Station (or soon to be spelt as Tanjong instead) will be kept as a railway museum.
wonder Dr M's reaction

- Commuter rail line from Johor Bahru to Tanjong Pagar West, and hence over to Tampines and so on.
- Intercity rail line to Tanjong Pagar West.
- Raeburn Development in Raeburn.
Huh??R all tis true??

why would anyone support this?
1. sovereignty sake. you want malaysia to cut up singapore into half with their line?
2. convenience. doesn't make sense for checkpoint to be one place, station to be another.
as a public transport fan myself, i'm realistic that most people in singapore are not. and public interest shouldn't be compromised just for a few people's nostalgia.

It is theirs actually, for a 999 year lease. Like a private property. Lee and Najib "forcefully" removed them.
