Hi,
I have recently tumbled upon ur forum post http://politics.sgforums.com/forums/2297/topics/331571
I would like to ask how do you solve for part (j)?
From Jundead
To solve the part (j),
(1) we will use the concept curve 1 = curve 2 at the intersecting point
(2) Since the question says the cubic equation is satisfied by the x values of the
intersecting of the curve x2 - x - 5 and the curve 1/x ie we can equate the two
curves (due to the intersecting points of x).
Hence, the required cubic equation is
x^2 - x - 5x = 1/x
x^3 - x^2 - 5x = 1
x^3 - x^2 - 5x - 1 = 0
Ver sorry for the late reply as I have not been visiting the sgforums E.Maths forum regularly.
Thank you for your kind attention.
