All MediaCorp Radio stations to run 24/7 from 1 Jan
SINGAPORE: From 1 January 2008, all 13 MediaCorp Radio stations will be transmitting 24/7.
The company said it recognises the growing demand to provide engaging radio entertainment all day long.
So Capital 95.8, Symphony 92.4, 938LIVE, Ria 89.7 and International Channel 96.3F are the final five MediaCorp Radio stations to join the others which are already running 24 hours.
9 out of 10 top stations in Singapore in 2007 belong to MediaCorp Radio, according to the latest (AC Nielsen Radio Diary) survey results.
And ratings have been steadily increasing to the current figure of 3,178,000 listeners.
The top 3 stations are Y.E.S 933FM, Love 97.2FM, and Class 95FM.
Rose Tan, Vice President of English Programming, MediaCorp Radio, said “When I used to drive after midnight, after partying I come back, I listen to the station, and the station goes dead, after midnight, so what do you do? You either switch to your own music, or you go to another station and you don’t come back again tomorrow. So it makes very good sense to go 24/7 so that you have your captured audience and tomorrow morning they go back to you again.”
She added: “Singaporeans don’t have a tendency to wake up at night but it is still a service to reach out to the customers, those who maybe need to study through the night, I hope that they would be able to find a MediaCorp radio station to keep them company.” —CNA/vm
