Hi
I'm from Spain and have lived here for 7 months now and so far find it very hard to meet locals. I've dug around quite a few of the local websites like this one and buzzsingapore but haven't really been able to meet many people. Folks here seem quite reserved so it's almost like you have to be introduced through friends or something. Does anyone have any advice with repect to a foreigner meeting local Singaporeans?

Err. Advice ah. Wad kind are u looking for?
go for outings lo. see got any outing just go lo.
Locals will be reserved most of the time. You'll need to find an activity that you like, be it the pubbing/clubbing scene, or the outdoors, or anything sufficiently specific. Then you can proceed to join in open activities and outings that are organized thru websites, forums, community clubs, anything. There are many activitity-specific local sites and forums; do google.
pick a forum that u can hang around...
if u like to eat and drink beer, go to club30s
Ok, this seems like a genuine post.
Why not join some outing in SgForums, and widen you social circle of locals sporean through this means?
Im pretty sure people here are friendly yo.
the ple(\kids) here are quite lame la.
im sure u wont wan to meet up with them..
haahaa
I'm glad you want to meet and chat with local people rather than stick to the expat circles. Depending on the sort of activities you like to do, there are groups which you can join. Singles Club - and as kopi said, Club 30 elsewhere in these forums - meets up over food and drink.
Since you have been here for 7 months, I suppose for work or study, that means you must have have some co-workers or classmates, and some of them must be local people. My suggestion for you is to try to connect with them first.
Ask them for some social activieties after work/ study.
Ohh.... from Spain.
Which team you like? Barcelona or Real Madrid?

That's like asking someone from Britain whether they're Liverpool or Man United supporters. -_-"

if not it'll be like the rest say, find a sub forum regarding an activity that interests you go in and post your name in the "outing thread" most are quite happy to ba able to attract new comers to their outings.

Hello Spanish person! I've been here since 2001, and have very few local friends. Meeting locals is extremely difficult and they are VERY reserved and parochial. It's just the way it is. You need about 5 years of something in common- such as a classroom, platoon or a undergraduate programme; where you see them on a regular basis (though without talking most of the time) and that's how friendship with locals develops.
As an immigrant from the UK, i've also found it hard to make friends here but not entirely impossible. Good luck.

And SIngaporeans ALWAYS ALWAYS never fail to keep asking us this... haha. 9 years of this can get annoying.

That's also like having a local say that an upper-middle class englishman is not really british because he doesn't play soccer =) Or a british muslim is not really british because he isn't blonde. OR the most recent thing i've heard from a malay guy i met:
"My though of englishman is one guy who wear the top-hat and carry the cane and look super rich."
and i interject: "And let me guess, tells you to get your arse back into the rubber plantations?"
ha!
Might be refreshing to actually hear of a genuine european person on sg-forums, highly unlikely. No young europeans choose to come here willingly for the long term.
Are you PRETTY?
If you PRETTY, surely ALOT of people would wanna know you... You don't have to go find them...
On a more serious note, if you don't wanna be introduced through friends or anything... You can always just approach anybody you're interested in and make friends..?
hahas!
Dont think Singaporean are reserved or conservative, if you want to make local friends start doing what the locals do. Mix around... No offence but unless you look like a freak generally Singaporeans are friendly.
I be your first...
