Mass Exercise Workout cum Memory Walk, Sunday, 22 March 2009
The Alzheimer’s Disease Association will be organising a Community Outreach Public Education Programme as part of its Dementia Awareness Week in March 2009 to promote greater awareness of dementia. (Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia).
We would like to invite you to participate in the Mass Exercise Workout cum Memory Walk on Sunday, 22 March 2009 at the Marina Floating Platform (next to Esplanade Theatre). Arrival of participants is from 8am- 8.30am. The Guest-of-Honour will arrive at 8.45am and the Mass Exercise Workout will start at 9am followed by a 2.8km walk at 9.30am. There will be fringe activities (Learn to Play Sports Stations, Carnival Games, Stage performances) after the Walk.
The cause of dementia is not well understood, but certain risk factors are known, especially cardiovascular risks, hypertension, diabetes and smoking. Research shows that some simple ways such as leading a healthy lifestyle by eating right, staying mentally and physically active can reduce the risks of developing dementia to either delay or prevent onset. The mass exercise workout and walk event is to promote awareness in reducing the risks of dementia Admission is free and participants will receive a T-shirt, Thera Band for the exercise and a goodie bag.
