LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Mr. Bean's Holiday" reclaimed the No. 1 spot at the overseas box office Sunday, a week after it lost the slot to "300."
The Rowan Atkinson comedy sold an estimated $18 million worth of tickets in 46 territories, lifting its foreign tally to $127 million.
The ancient epic "300" logged an estimated $14.8 million from 61 markets. That was enough to propel the graphic Spartans-vs.-Persians epic past the $200 million mark (and $405 million worldwide).
Both "Holiday" and newcomer "Wild Hogs" claimed box office honors in Britain. Universal said that on a strictly weekend basis, "Holiday" finished first with $3.1 million in its third weekend for a 17-day market cume of $36.2 million. Disney, however, reported $3.7 million for "Wild Hogs," (a figure that includes an unspecified number of previews).
Universal also said "Holiday" finished first in Germany ($2.2 million, 18-day total of $18.1 million), Italy ($1.2 million, 10-day total of $4.9 million) and Australia ($1.9 million, 18-day total of $10.5 million).
"Holiday" moved up two places to No. 3 in Spain with $1.1 million, for a 17-day total of $8.1 million. It also finished third in Mexico, where the weekend tally was an estimated $760,000 for a 10-day total of $2.6 million.
"Holiday" has 11 more foreign territories to play, including Japan and Korea; its U.S. bow is August 31.
In Germany, "300" drew an estimated $1.5 million in its second weekend, an ominous 66% drop. The market total stands at $10.7 million. In the second weekend in Australia, the tally was $1.8 million, for a total of $8 million. "300" was tops for the third consecutive weekend in Brazil with $1.3 million.
In the third spot for the weekend was "Perfect Stranger," which opened in 40 markets for $8.7 million. It also bowed this weekend domestically, finishing in the No. 4 spot.
The psychological melodrama finished first in Spain ($1.9 million), France ($1.5 million) and Taiwan ($270,000). In Italy, "Stranger" finished in the No. 2 slot with $1 million.
Domestic champ "Disturbia" opened at No. 3 in Australia with $1.7 million.
Finishing No. 4 on the weekend was "Wild Hogs," which claimed $8.1 million from 18 markets (eight new), raising its overseas total to $28 million. Besides the U.K., the suburban biker comedy's biggest market opening was in Spain ($1.4 million, No. 2). Next weekend, "Hogs" opens in 17 markets, including Brazil and Italy.
Fifth place went to "Meet the Robinsons," with $5.7 million from 33 territories, hiking its international total to $36 million.
