LOS ANGELES - The first actor to play James Bond onscreen has died. His wife says Barry Nelson died last Saturday while traveling in Pennsylvania. The cause of death was not immediately known.
Nelson first played 0-0-7 in a one-hour T-V adaptation of "Casino Royale" in 1954, well before Sean Connery was tapped to play the British agent on the big screen in 1962's "Dr. No."
Nelson enjoyed a prolific career in movies, television and theater. He earned a Tony nomination in 1978 for his role in "The Act," which also starred Liza Minnelli.
