Columbia, SC (AHN) - The body of singer James Brown has been buried nearly three months after he died. The singer's body was buried at a South Carolina crypt at the home of one of his daughters.
Mourners released white balloons and the Rev. Al Sharpton presided over a memorial service. Brown's partner, Tomi Rae Hynie, was also in attendance, along with the couple's young son.
Brown died on Christmas day at the age of 73. His body has been housed in an undisclosed location since then. Most doubt the crypt will be his final resting place. A public mausoleum is in the process of being built. The location will be announced after its completion.
Hynis claims to be Brown's fourth wife and is suing for half of the singer's estate. Attorneys for Brown say the marriage was annulled because she was still married to another man. Hynie, Brown's children and trustees of Brown's estate are all entangled in a lengthy legal battle over the singer's fortune.
