Spanish keeper has struggled to adapt to the new manager's style and has already dropped a couple of clangers this season
Pepe Reina has until January to show Brendan Rodgers he can fit into the new Liverpool and stop the club searching for a rival first-choice goalkeeper.
And Liverpool have moved to try to avoid future transfer deadline disasters by attempting to complete their new recruitment set-up ahead of schedule.
Goalkeeper Reina has made a disappointing start to the season, making bad errors against Hearts and Arsenal. The Spaniard also looks uncomfortable with Rodgers’ style of encouraging his defenders to pass to and receive the ball from the keeper.
Reina has been a wonderful servant to Liverpool and has often performed heroics since signing for the club from Villarreal for £6m in 2005. But there is a feeling he lacks serious competition from reserves Brad Jones and Alexander Doni.
Going Dutch? Swansea's Michel Vorm is a possible replacement for Pepe Reina
Rodgers could look for a promising up-and-coming keeper to put pressure on Reina. But if the 30-year-old does not improve, then he will also consider trying to take his former Swansea keeper, 28-year-old Michel Vorm, to Anfield.
Liverpool are confident they will perform much better in the January transfer window and will immediately start work on identifying targets.
Rodgers wants the men who will be responsible for finding new talent, Dave Fallows and Barry Hunter, to start work this month.
It had been expected Fallows and Hunter would not formally join Liverpool from Manchester City until 2013. But, following the botched summer transfer window, the Anfield club are trying to rush their appointments through.
Fallows will be head of scouting and recruitment. Hunter will be chief scout.
Rodgers said: “Hopefully, this month our scouting team comes together and there will be a lot of great work between now and then, finding the targets that will fit into the way we are going to play going forward.”
Must well move the whole Swansea team to Liverpool -.-"
Dun need to play Reina every single game, give Doni a game here and there. Keeper also need to rest one.
Reina is the last saving grace.
Doni cannot make it and most probably will get a red card if he is fielded.
Ah Rod is shifting his old team over to Liverpool.
Henry should have bought over Swansea instead of Liverpool.
reminded me of souness in 1991, when he rid of the old liverpool players that won them the championship in 1990, the likes of beardsley, staunton, steve mahon were sold and he quickly brought in many players such as nigel clough, paul stewart, mark walters, etc but they couldnt gel. he quitted in 1994 after 3 seasons at liverpool, that yielded the fa cup won in 1992.
rodger will be gone with the wind by december, I am convinced. why? the owner wouldnt tolerate liverpool in relegation or top 10 if liverpool is still hovering in top 10 by then.
It's very funny the way things are being done in Liverpool now.
When a manager comes in, he should evaluate the players he has and then try to adopt a style that suits most of the players.
Instead, he comes up with a style of play and expects the current players to adapt to his style.
Imagine some new manager at Barca asking the players to keep pumping long balls and chase.
You think Barca will win the league this way?

I didn't thought of it that way but rather good point made...
Rodgers is not suited to manage a top club, not that liverpool is now, so that is ok, as they will not finish top 6, never mind top 4 in the league come end of may.
as a professional footballer, I dunno why is it so hard to play good passing football. after all they are training almost everyday and been playing this sport since young.
Reina should have left liverpool when rafa or torres left.
He is still a spanish international although not as no 1 goalie, but no 2 or 3 behind Casillas.
