  Getting shirty: Liverpool's new third kit has been unveiled

   

   

   

  Liverpool kit designers Warrior made a real splash with the Anfield club's new strip - which is some coincidence as the newly-unveiled third kit looks like a wet suit.
  

  Pushing boundaries, expanding horizons, seeking out brave new worlds, say what you like - this change kit is certain to divide opinion.

  The radical combination of purple and orange are hardly the choice of colours to satisfy the purists over on Merseyside and comes after the club revealed the ultra-traditional first kit in May. 

  The new home kit was well received by those who appreciated it's nods to the illustrious history at Anfield.
  

  The Reds heralded the new home kit for 'it's modern tradition' and that 'it's unapologetically Liverpool FC', but the third strip is as far removed from that as you could imagine.

  The new kits are the first collaborations with Boston-based company Warrior Sports following a £25m-a-year partnership which broke British records when its was announced last year.

  Warrior, a subsidiary of New Balance, have taken over from adidas in making a kit which has in recent years been the fourth biggest seller around the world.

  Around 900,000 are sold annually, a number only beaten by North West rivals Manchester United.

  LIVERPOOL fans were left cringing last night as their dazzling new third kit was launched.

  The reaction to the eye-catching purple, orange and white design was a far cry from the approval the popular new home shirt received when it was first revealed in May.

  Kopites already expected the worst after a garish version of the shirt was leaked online last month.

  But while the new strip was not quite as ghastly as the mock-ups, the strip Warrior call a “bold design statement to the football world” proved far from popular.

  The purple body — or “nightshade” colour — is apparently inspired by “popular past goalkeeper kits” worn by David James and Pepe Reina.

  While the tribal warrior markings on the white sleeves are a “design first for the club”.

  But Reds supporters were not left convinced by the “ground-breaking” shirt.

  One fan tweeted: “I still can’t eat after watching Liverpool’s third kit. It must be illegal in some countries right?”

  Another posted: “Liverpool’s third kit is an absolute disgrace. Whoever designed and signed off on it should be ashamed.”

  But at least one supporter seemed happy as they wrote: “It’s official, the new Liverpool third kit is actually quite nice. I even like the tribal aspect.”

  The Reds will wear the shirt during their Europa League campaign and in selected Premier League matches.

  At least if the 2nd choice is nice they can still feel a little better when they play away.

  Now, if they are not wearing their scuba diving suits, they will be wearing their purple ones... lol.

  Mighty Red: Kids love the new Liverpool mascot

   

   

   

   

  Liverpool have unveiled a new mascot - a life-size Liver Bird called 'Mighty Red' - in a bid to appeal to younger fans.
  

  Traditionally, Liverpool have never had a pitch-side mascot at Anfield and it seems Liverpool's American owners want to continue this.  

  But the character, which made its first appearance at a children's party on Sunday afternoon, is loosely based on the Liver Bird, a symbol of the city, and is seen on the club badge.
  

  It will be used to entertain kids at community events.
  

  While Mighty Red's appearance - which is strikingly similar to Arsenal's Gunnersaurus Rex - seemed to entertain the kids, some parents were not enamoured.
  

  One fan said: 'It looks ridiculous. We'll be a laughing stock if this thing appears on the touchline. It's just more Americanisation of the club.
  

  'While it's fine for the kids - it will be good at children's parties - and is marginally better than the utterly dreadful Olympics mascots, just keep it away from Anfield.'
  

  It is still unclear if that fan will get his wish, although it seems likely that Mighty Red will be used solely in Liverpool's community work and will not be present on match days.
  

  The introduction of Mighty Red is not the first time a mascot has been poorly received on Merseyside.

  In the 1990s Everton tried to introduce the ill-fated 'Mr Toffee' (or Dixie as he was known).
  

  Evertonians were not enthralled with Dixie and he was abandoned after one season and not seen again at Goodison.
  

  However, one Liverpool fan present at the kids' party thought the club was being progressive. 
  

  'I was there for the launch of Mighty Red and he went down brilliantly with the kids, who are the intended targets for this mascot.
  

  'They ran like mad to get their goodie bags off him, they danced around him and queued up to have their pictures taken. They loved him!'

  Brendan Rodgers New best friend before Liverpool's home games?

   

   

    

  The mascot is a rough representation of the Liver Bird which is the symbol of the city and features on the club badge.

  One fan told MirrorFootball they were not impressed with the new character.

  "He may be a Liver Bird, but he looks awful," our source said.

  "I just hope that is for the children and will not be present at every game played at Anfield."

  Boston red shirts: Robbie Fowler, Ian Rush, Linda Pizzuti and mascot Mighty Red at Camp Harbor View

   

   

  She was so eager to join in with the famous Anfield atmosphere, she took to a fans' forum to learn the songs before her first visit.

  And now it seems Linda Pizzuti – the glamorous wife of Liverpool owner John W. Henry – wants to learn to play the Liverpool way too. 

  Pizzuti joined club legends Ian Rush and Robbie Fowler at a coaching session in Boston on the first leg of Liverpool’s pre-season tour of North America on Tuesday.

  And with Rush and Fowler taking part in an LFC Foundation training session with local school kids at Camp Harbor View, near Boston, she dropped by to get the latest news from the club.

  
  

  Pizzuti was pictured with the two coaches and 'cheeky' new mascot Mighty Red and also tweeted a picture of a 40ft climbing wall, which she claimed Fowler and most of the Foundation coaches scaled with ease.
