Robbie Keane pays touching tribute to tragic Ireland fan James Nolan
LA Galaxy striker Robbie Keane paid a touching tribute to James Nolan - the Republic of Ireland fan who tragically died while watching his country at Euro 2012.
Keane, who is back in America playing for his Major League Soccer side, scored the second goal of the game against Vancouver Whitecaps, and celebrated by running to the touchline and raising a customised shirt in honour of the 21-year-old fan.
Nolan accidently drowned while he was out in Poland watching Ireland, and Keane revealed he’ll send the ‘RIP James Nolan’ shirt to the boy’s family.
He added: ‘I called his father today to send my condolences and to say that my thoughts were with him and the family.
‘It was just a gesture because the Irish people are very close and they stick with each other through good times and bad times.
‘He [James Nolan] was a big, big soccer fan and it was a shame, so it was just a show of respect really.’
