....Spain assistant coach Paco Jimenez has revealed that Barcelona scouts are keeping tabs on Tottenham's Luka Modric..
With the White Hart Lane club missing out on Champions League football for 2012-13, the Premier League side are expected to struggle to hold onto their star playmaker.
The former Dinamo Zagreb man has impressed for Croatia during Euro 2012, and La Roja's trainer has stated that Blaugrana scouts have been watching him in action.
"He's playing very well; Barcelona have someone watching him," Jimenez told reporters.
"He was present at Croatia's game against Italy, but I can not say who he is."
Manchester United are also believed to be interested in signing Modric this summer, while Chelsea pursued the Spurs man in the summer of 2011.
Spurs, meanwhile, are still expected to sign Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen despite Harry Redknapp's departure this week.
Goal.com understands the club's pursuit of the player will continue and will not be affected by the change in management at White Hart Lane. -

There are plenty of creative midfielders in Spain. Why waste money on modric. He is not even good.

Modric is definitely worth the money... I find he is better than Nasri, Ribery, Van der Vaart or even Sneijder... And he isn't even the highest paid as he isn't as demanding as the rest...

all the players you mentioned are neither from spain nor italy which i feel produces the best midfielders. england obviously lack midfielders of the highest calibre. hence they think modric is very good. -
The players i mentioned are considered top midfielders in Europe.
It's would be quite ironic that the 2 best club in Spain are being linked to him when there are suppose to be better midfielders in their country available?
England never had a top midfielder since Gazza. A younger Scholes was probably the closest thing they had till date.

You sure he played badly at the Euro? He was the main player Spain was worried about and his Croatia team was unlucky not to get to the 2nd stage. Spain had their keeper to thank for a string of good saved against them or the team that went home would be them instead of Croatia...
Also, Real's interest in him came about during his performance at the Euro... if he played that badly, I don't think they would be interested with him at all.

he had only one shot against italy and did nothing throughout the match. i watched many spurs game. i feel he is not one that can turn games. at least not often enough. -

Well, if the people at Barce, Real, Manchester & Chelsea see something in him that warrant the mention, then i suppose he must be doing something right... Right?
He is probably going to Madrid very soon to join the Spanish champions. That should be enough to speak volume of his talent.

did you watch any of italy's game? or any of the many matches pirlo ever played? he is one of the most creative passers of the ball whereas modric regularly pass the ball square. a good midfielder is one that can create chances out of nowhere - those that can split defenses. anyway i am not saying modric has no talent. but exaggerated. or maybe english football doesnt suit him. time will tell. -

Manchester United have conceded defeat in their efforts to sign Luka Modric as the Tottenham midfielder edges closer to a move to Real Madrid.Sir Alex Ferguson made the Croatian playmaker a top target for the summer transfer window but the United manager has been stunned by Tottenham’s £40 million asking price.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is likely to accept a £35m bid but United feel the transfer would not make economic sense, even though Modric’s wage demands would be well within the Old Trafford club’s budget.
United have signed attacking midfielder Shinji Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund and Ferguson does not feel pressure to enter the transfer market, particularly as Paul Scholes has extended his contract to play next term.
There had been suggestions that Modric had already agreed personal terms with United but Spurs’ asking price was always likely to be a stumbling block.
Modric, 26, is also a target for Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Anzhi Makhachkala - but the midfielder looks increasingly likely to become Jose Mourinho’s big summer signing at Real Madrid.
Reports in Spain this week have suggested Modric’s representatives have already held talks with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez while the player will re-iterate his desire to leave Spurs in a meeting with Levy this week.
Spurs refused to sell Modric to Chelsea last summer but accept that the former Dinamo Zagreb man is almost certain to be sold this year after the north London club missed out on a place in next season’s Champions League.
“Here I am no longer able to fulfil my dream,” Modric told Marca this week. “I’m going to play in the Champions League - I want to win this competition.”
Tottenham would prefer to sell Modric abroad, rather than strengthen a Premier League rival, while there is a good relationship at boardroom level between Spurs and Madrid.
Discussions over the transfer of Modric to the Spanish capital have already taken place, with Spurs keen to negotiate a player exchange deal to meet their valuation. Players mentioned as possible makeweights include Nuri Sahin, Ricardo Carvalho and Lassana Diarra.
Mourinho has been tracking Modric and his Spurs team-mate Gareth Bale - who signed a new four-year contract on Wednesday - for the last three years and decided to make his move at the end of the season.
Modric impressed for Croatia at Euro 2012 and would add creativity to the midfield at the Bernabeu as they look to retain their La Liga title and win the Champions League next season.
Andre Villas-Boas, who is expected to be named as the new Spurs manager in the coming days, is a huge fan of Modric having tried to sign him for Chelsea last summer. The Portuguese, however, accepts the player’s desire to leave and is already involved in the search for potential replacements.
Spurs are expected to complete the signing of Gylfi Sigurdsson from Hoffenheim for £8m early next week but the Icelandic midfielder is not considered a like-for-like replacement for Modric. -

I think he's overpriced. Look at euro 2012 and you can see he does not make a BIG impact on games consistently. He's also pint sized and can be easily muscled and hustled off the ball by better teams. Technically, he's good but there are other spaniards better than him. Moreover, barca has alrdy got xavi and iniesta. They should be grooming someone through their ranks as both xavi and iniesta have got a few more good years in them.

REAL Madrid are in the process of juggling figures to clinch Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric.
The Spanish club are desperate to poach the player from their competitors Chelsea who have put in an alleged £36m bid for the player.
