Brendan Rodgers is trying to persuade Salomon Kalou to snub Schalke and sign for Liverpool now he's left Chelsea.
The Reds boss, a former member of the Chelsea coaching staff, has made contact with the 26-year-old Ivory Coast forward to try to convince him that his next move should be to Anfield.
Kalou, who helped the Blues win the FA Cup and Champions League last season, is one of the most sought-after free agents around after being released last month to end his six years in west London.
Rodgers knows Kalou from their time together at Chelsea and sees him as the ideal player to solve Liverpool’s right-sided problem now that Dirk Kuyt has signed for Fenerbahce.
The Kop's move could yet wreck the plans of Schalke boss Huub Stevens, who has claimed there is a stampede for Kalou’s services.
He said: “Kalou is a Bosman player this summer. It’s obvious. There are many other clubs keen on him. Liverpool, for example.
“But I know for sure he wants to move away from England. This could be our chance!”
