FA Cup
The pair will meet for the first time since their race row bust-up when QPR face Chelsea in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
England skipper Terry is due in court next bust-up when QPR clash with Chelsea in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
England skipper Terry is due in court next week over allegations he racially abused Ferdinand during a Premier League game at Loftus Road in October.
He strenuously denies all charges.
PFA chairman Clarke Carlisle, who is also part of the Kick It Out campaign, said: "I can understand why Anton Ferdinand would not want to accept a handshake from John Terry because the pair have a personal disagreement and that has led to criminal proceedings against one of them.
"It would be stupid if Ferdinand is forced into shaking his hand. It would be under false pretences.
"It is already a delicate situation and a forced handshake could cause wider problems. You hope the two guys will respect each other on the pitch, whatever the outcome of the handshake beforehand."
But Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas said: "The handshake is extremely important because it is a question of respect for the opponent.
"Football is based on good values more than anything else. These two players should continue to promote those good values.
"It will be a big moment before the kick-off but when it comes to the time to shake hands, the players should set an example and I expect they will stand up to their responsibilities and do it."
QPR boss Mark Hughes said: "The handshake has to be Anton's own personal decision. It won't be influenced by myself or the club."
QPR players are considering a snub to John Terry by all refusing to shake his hand ahead of today’s FA Cup tie.
The squad are understood to have spoken among themselves and will take a final decision today as to whether to go forward with the gesture of support for Anton Ferdinand, following the race-row clash between the pair in October.
Ferdinand, upset after receiving hate-mail said to contain gun ammunition yesterday, has told boss Mark Hughes that he wants to play against Chelsea in the noon kick-off at Loftus Road and has the full support of his colleagues.
And despite calls from Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas for Ferdinand to offer his hand, Ferdinand is determined to stand his ground.
The discussion among his teammates came on a day when the suspicious package - and subsequent abuse on his Facebook page - left Ferdinand upset.
PFA deputy chief executive Bobby Barnes said: “This takes the beautiful game to a very ugly place.
“I can’t say I’m suprised but I’m still disappointed that this is happening in this day and age.
“This is the sort of thing black players had to put up with years ago but I thought those days had long gone.
“No true Chelsea fan or football fan would condone this sort of behaviour. This is the sort of incident where racists believe they can express their feelings.
“I don’t feel they can and should be grouped with true Chelsea or football supporters.”
QPR manager Hughes said that “It’s a personal decision” for Ferdinand but Villas-Boas put the onus on Ferdinand to accept Terry’s handshake offer.
Ferdinand and Terry are set to come face to face for the first time since the October 23 match which resulted in the Chelsea skipper facing charges of racially insulting the QPR defender.
Terry is due to be arraigned at West London Magistrates on Wednesday.
i think JT is used to people not wanting to shake his hand by now
John terry can only shake hands with ref
Football fans can be real a*holes. Just who sent that bullet?
By doing that, they will hurt JT's feelings and make him cry?
The FA decided to do away with the pre match handshakes.
No fun!
I dunno how on earth JT can be england captain after he has done. worst ever england captain in history.
bad example.
Ya,after what happened to Wayne Bridge....Nobody respects him anymore. He should just be content to be part of the England squad and step down as captain.
Mata pen
chelsea win

To save Terry the embarrassment of going through the whole QPR team with the whole world watching and nobody wants to shake his hand, The FA decide to do away with the handshake...
It would have looked very weird for Terry to go through every QPR player and offered his hand and every one just ignore him...
The FA saved the day i guess...
Anyway, good job chelsea are through... Wouldn't like to see them go out.
