Shamed former FIFA vice-president Jack Warner has launched a new attack on president Sepp Blatter by claiming he was given TV rights to the World Cup in for $1 in return for his vote in both the 1998 and 2002 elections.
The statement referred to Warner's "extremely critical roles in his [Blatter's] re-election as well as in preventing several members of the then Executive Committee from instituting criminal charges against him."
Warner resigned from his post with FIFA in June after accusations of bribery, his decision to quit ending all investigations by FIFA's ethics committee. Warner claimed he had been "hung out to dry" by FIFA.
In a seperate accusation, Warner stated he was offered the rights to the 2018 and 2022 finals if he voted for Blatter in last summer's elections - which he refused to do.
"In 2011, in exchange for my support (and by extension the support of the CFU and the CONCACAF) in the FIFA presidential election, the FIFA again offered me the sale of the World Cup Rights for 2018 and 2022 as a 'gift' at a nominal fee. Notwithstanding the inducements offered, I & refused to endorse Sepp Blatter for the 2011 FIFA Presidential election&", the statement added.
FIFA has declined to comment, but Warner said he will reveal yet more next week.
