Everton striker Louis Saha believes Chelsea can catch leaders Manchester United and successfully defend their title - with Fernando Torres leading the line.
Saha can see Liverpool marksman Torres not only increasing Chelsea’s potency with his own scoring contribution but having a galvanising effect on those around him.
He predicted a positive response from Nicolas Anelka, should he remain at Stamford Bridge rather than be part of an exchange deal, and Didier Drogba that would give Chelsea real hope of retaining their crown.
"I think Drogba and Anelka are both big players, and as a striker you all like competition and to show you are good enough to play," he said. "So I think it would be a big boost for Chelsea, having that competition.
"If you want to catch the other teams, you need to invest. If Torres comes, that would take them to a higher level, with everyone pushing for places. It’s only human nature, when that happens, that you work harder.
"Having Torres would put a lot of pressure on all the teams. They will definitely be a big threat to United and Arsenal now."
