Anyone planning to study medicine?

Some students have been asking me about the entry requirements and what it entails to be a medical doctor. Entry requirements have obviously changed since I started medical school...does anyone know the cut off points nowadays?

Poly students still get in right despite the new changes in education policies?

Yes, the Duke Medical School is being built...they will take in graduates only (Engineers, lawyers, science grads etc). Yes, I doubt Duke will take in poly grads...in fact, they will take in fewer local students compared to NUS. Rumour is that a very significant proportion of students will be foreigners. the COP for med is 'mixed'
my sis who has 3A 1 b got in, a friend of mine, 4a failed. my PC has 3A and 1 b or something, failed to get in.
apparently they have quotas for diff scores and also the interview. -
ya...my time they gave points to your A level score (3 A levels+ GP +n 2Lang). 'A' is worth 20 points, 'B' is worth 16 points etc...A1 for GP and 2Lang is worth 8 points, so total 76 points.Originally posted by bismarck:the COP for med is 'mixed'

My time they said most applicants had between 72 to 76 points, anything below 68 point dun bother applying. So if someone have 4As but get B3 for GP and C5 for 2 Lang, he will get lower points than one with 3As1B but A1 for both GP and 2Lang. Then they add the academic points to the interview points..
Bit nowadays so many people get perfect scores...must be difficult to select... -
im just wondering how many people are interested in the medical field. it seems to me that fewer and fewer people want to become doctors

U can forget getting into a American Medical Uni.
U need a Pre-Med degree like a degree in Chem, Bio etc
with poly Dip, work your way to a Pre-Med degree.
even with a Pre-Med degree U might not get into a American Med School.
Unless U have good volunteering experience, best U have green card.
I knew a Singapore guy had 3 Pre-Med Degrees from USA and still cannot make it to a top 50 USA Med School. -

Poly grads from all 5 poly and any major?
since most major already B+ or merit to get in... Medical so sought after.. standard should be much higher..
must be gold, silver and bronse medal then can.. merit cannot? if so, that would suck.. -
Every year there are at least 500 students with 3 to 4 distinctions at A levels vying for places in Medicine. That does not include the many foreign students with good results who come across the causeway. If they open up to poly grads (and i do not see why not), the competition for poly grads will be very tough. Probably only the top students need apply.

Only GPA 4.0/4.0, with A1 for CCA, and many awards need apply. -

Saw this thread.. Almost wanted to create a new topic for this.. Anyway..
I'm interested to get into NUS Medicine course and of course be a doctor.. But doubt I'll get in because from what I heard.. I need a distinction in my GP.. And my GP now is like shiat.. The worst among all my subjects.. I believe that I'll get 3 distinction for my 'A' level subjects.. But I worry about my GP.. Is there a possibility that I can get into the course via other ways..?
Anyway.. Can someone tell me what's the difference between the Pharmacy course and Med course in NUS..? Is it more difficult to get in or what..? Maybe I'll consider Phar if I can't get into Med.. What are the requirements for Phar anyway..?
And there is a poly course on Biomed is I'm not wrong.. Do students from that course have high chances of getting into Med..?
Any info is greatly appreciated..

Believe me. When I am Primary 4, I aspired to become a scientist. In those days, I only knew that Science was fun. But a few years later, I truly understands Science. My dream now is to study Medicine. Penny Tan will be my role model.
