Yeah, but you don have the tonsils anymore liau mar after operation... so won't u get infected easily? I think I talked about this several weeks ago...Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:I don't know how to say, so just copy from your question:
Such tonsils function as the first line defence in capturing bacteria from the food or air particulates and destroying them before it starts to colonize the rich oral mucosa.

The mouth has so much bacteria but most of them aren't harmful enough or able to get into our systems. Nasal mucus also traps them most of them.Originally posted by renorenal:Yeah, but you don have the tonsils anymore liau mar after operation... so won't u get infected easily? Those are commensals, they live in harmony within the oral mucosa, but virulence one often stirs problem and causes sore throats. Mostly viral but there are several that are bacterial. Tonsils often help to eradicate the majority of them, hence weakening them to a lesser amount so that they could not colonize and overwhelm the immune system. The trapping doesn't really work for bacteria as they (the microbes) are much and way smaller than that...Originally posted by Kuali Baba:The mouth has so much bacteria but most of them aren't harmful enough or able to get into our systems.
