...K-wires...Originally posted by alexkusu:in 2nd year uni.. i was stayin uni halls.. was cutting up cabbages with this fantastically sharp german knife.. accidentaly sliced a wee piece of my thumb..
was bleedin like no tomorrow. Really cant stop the bleedin. So used cellotape and toilet paper. Cos other materials goes soggy quickly with my blood. So i called my friend to buy some bandages and iodine n bring to my hall.
She (frm japan), was thinking 'Huh, bandages? whats that?" she heard guys always panic in this kinda situations so she thought in my 'momment of panic', i misspelled it. So she bought handyplast instead but no iodine.
Needless to say, she fainted on arrival.
Anyway, I went to see a doctor the next day. He put this kinda teflon mash n wrapped my thumb up. Whats that material called reno?
You should had told him you need his blood else you die from blood loss!Originally posted by alexkusu:Anyway, back to topic.. in 6th form for physics, i was cutting cardboard to make rubber band racer... I was holdin the pen knife facing me..
suddenly it sliced n embedded in my thumb.. when i pulled it out, it was like a huge gash on my thumb n blood was pouring out all over the floor. I just walked calmly to the teacher n ask for a handyplast. My korean classmate was kinda shock..n kept askin if im alright (of cos im not, im losing blood u moron).
Well, i jus told him cooly "Yeah, nothing much, just a scratch".

Just to make sure we are talking on the same thing... there are two long wires designed in an X shape when inserted...

Long time ago.. if i remembered correctly, its bout greenish-yellow cloth material, with holes of about 0.2m by 0.12m size.Originally posted by renorenal:...not sure lah... you got pix?
...nope... i haven seen such cloth before in govt hospital so far... most is all white... sterile would be green in color...Originally posted by alexkusu:Long time ago.. if i remembered correctly, its bout greenish-yellow cloth material, with holes of about 0.2m by 0.12m size.

Hahaha... I think if you go private one, they will definitely order something that is far better than those used in govt hospitals one...Originally posted by alexkusu:but teflon coating one.. so less agitation/friction on the wound..
nvm, i go chop my thumb so can ask doc again
I got something like that on my mashed big toe. It's a substance which helps the tissue healing, the substance releases from the cloth time by time, so that you can have it there for days.Originally posted by alexkusu:Long time ago.. if i remembered correctly, its bout greenish-yellow cloth material, with holes of about 0.2m by 0.12m size.
now u mention it..i think it was more of a gauze..Originally posted by renorenal:Hahaha... I think if you go private one, they will definitely order something that is far better than those used in govt hospitals one...
If thumb got chopped here, depending on severity, the mildest being bandaging the wound with a pad inside, then covering with an outer layer of gauze... if it is chopped off completely, then K wires would be handy if the thumb is still salvagable...
...I think TD already provided the answer...Originally posted by alexkusu:now u mention it..i think it was more of a gauze..
so how..does teflon gauze exist in ur knowledge?
really..it actually release sth? i tot it was a protective layer..was it waterproof?Originally posted by thinkdifferent:I got something like that on my mashed big toe. Haha, no idea if it was waterproof, I had to avoid water with my big toe else I could get complications and some infection.Originally posted by alexkusu:really..it actually release sth? i tot it was a protective layer..was it waterproof?
