How do you bear with pain?
Lai lai, share share your technique especially when you see a long needle which is going into your skin any second from now...
Your technique may be useful for ppl who are scared of needles...

Dont look at the needle and think of other things.

Calm yourself down. If you keep thinking you are scared, you will feel pain. Once you calm down, the pain will be reduced.

okie la..so far e most painful one was:
i took it in P6..the BCG..somehow i felt tat e 'test' shot was more burning than e actual one..din do anything much la..was watching how e nurse injected into me..then eh? felt nothing..later did e sensation come and saw e bubble rise within my skin..by e time i felt pain, e shot was over..
din cry or watsoever..come to think of it, wondered how i got thru it..
but so far only once did i cried after experience with needles..
had to take blood samples to the lab n test for Heb B...e first time, e doc inserted e needle n pulled e syringe..okie got blood...after tat, started to see bubbles..sigh..so no choice have to try another vein..
tis time, e left hand..e same thing happened, but tis time, it caused so much pain!! could felt e whole vein being pulled from wrist to upper arm..e doc was so shocked..she took it out immediately..
last time, back to right hand again..another spot though..no blood still..
but i think i was in trauma already..sat there and teared...e doc pasted 3 plasters on me lo..think she felt quite bad too...mus have looked so silly w so many plasters..after that left her room, but sat in e clinic for fifteen mins..
pple were wondering wat happened manz..
no choice had to make another trip down to tat same clinic again..luckily, it was successful tat fourth time..or i would have died..
i was 17 then...
now everytime think of blood tests abit scared...docs always *shakes head* whever they see me...cos vessel too thin liaoz..hard to find..challenging for e greenhorns... -
Poor thing. Luckily me draw blood one time ok already. Don't know how many blood tests have I taken............... the doctors (no kidding, nurses didn't draw the blood) are very good at doing it, and is much less painful than the nurses who did it. I practically didn't feel anything when they drew my blood to do blood tests.

Sounded traumatic... ok... when I was in my studying years, withdrawing blood wasn't a prob, but inserting an IV line was one of the toughest challenge for me coz the trocar was pretty long and I had to ensure that the pulling and withdrawing action is met at all times... quite tough... hahaha...Originally posted by alfagal:okie la..so far e most painful one was:

I believe you meant pin-prick... for Reflolux (glucometer) test to check your capillary sugar level... -

Trocar is like a guide for a cannula (a flexible tube), usually a needle. The main aim of the trocar is to reach the desired location (such as a blood vessel) and once it creates a path, it can be removed and the cannula which is meant to stay temporarily for a period of time to administer medications or to drain fluids, is then inserted.
Hahaha... the first time when I was withdrawing blood, I felt quite bad and was sweating all over... feel like calling the house officer to take over me and felt lousy for the whole day... but now different liau larz... expert d -

I haven't poke only she screamed until sooooo loud... the whole ward staffs and patients kept looking at me...
chialat... but in the end I got the blood lar... wuz so happy man... she was screaming as I insert the needle and screaming as I withdraw the blood and screaming as I remove the needle...

this seems familiar..anyway i always look at the injection one..cause i don't like to look away den suddenly get a shocked when the needle first enter,which might cause me to jerk..heck i even had to endure 4 injections just for one sample of blood..nothing new to me..
