sigh ke lian..Originally posted by renorenal:I had a viral fever once (intermittent fever, it goes up and comes down and then spikes again)...
Whole joint was painful, the back of my eyes were burning, and my throat was dry, and when I was walking back from the clinic, I didn't notice a pothole, because I was very dizzy... had to go alone because there was no one home...
I stepped onto the pothole without noticing and sprained my right ankle and bruised my right elbow...
Lied down on the bed to elevate my leg for 2 days... with the viral fever not wanting to go... it's really killing... pray for death somemore, coz the pain was unbearable...
Lasted for more than 5 days before I actually got better to walk around...
did u hurt hurself, lik knowcking into something before u blankout?Originally posted by thinkdifferent:I have learnt to survive and to help myself. But that was a bad situation, I think it was combination of hypoglicemia and low BP.
I don't think so, when I felt I am gonna faint, I tried to get in a position where I minimize the risk of injury.Originally posted by alfagal:did u hurt hurself, lik knowcking into something before u blankout?

maybe you should ask your patients.Originally posted by renorenal:Have you ever experienced one of those times when you are so ill that you believe that you are about to kick the bucket or buy the farm?
Or, was it an accident, a near-miss accident when you are driving on the road?
I'm interested to hear from you, so do share it here and especially how you feel when you are spared from the death sentence...

Yes... it is hypoglycemia... without appropriate and quick intervention, patient may succumb to hypoglycemic shock...Originally posted by alfagal:hmm jus wanna ask..its Hypoglycemia right?

sorry... hypoglycemia refers to low blood glucose in the body... if this is excessive, the body will try it's very best to extricate all resources available, using up fats first and then moving on to proteins. However such compounds yields acids as a by-product in it's breakdown and utilization processes and their process is slow in generating energy source...Originally posted by shinta:wats that?
nah... nowadays the medical side is rather efficient in recognizing and diagnosing it and treating it is very easy actually, though it is classified as one of the medical emergencies...Originally posted by shinta:

Got a lot of illness with similar symptoms as this, how to determine whether that the patient has hypoglycemia?Originally posted by renorenal:sorry... hypoglycemia refers to low blood glucose in the body... if this is excessive, the body will try it's very best to extricate all resources available, using up fats first and then moving on to proteins. certain organs in the body may not be able to wait that long and the brain will interpret it as a sign of danger from starvation (actually this is a long process, those that of sudden onset happens in diabetics more often for those who takes excessive insulin)...
symptoms such as profuse sweating, palpitations, anxiety, hunger, restlessness, giddiness and tremors will step in...
when severe and unintervened, the patient may succumb to a shock and become comatosed and may even die...
...this is how emedicine.com (an excerpt) explains it...
Decreased levels of glucose lead to deficient cerebral glucose availability (ie, neuroglycopenia) that can manifest as confusion, difficulty with concentration, irritability, hallucinations, focal impairments (eg, hemiplegia), and eventually, coma and death. Stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system leads to sweating, palpitations, tremulousness, anxiety, and hunger.
