Then it depends on whether the japan anti piracy company want to charge us.

BTW THEY ARE CHARGING ME FOR THE EPISODES I DLED DURING APRIL.
EVEN BEFORE THEY RELEASE THE NEWS. AND START SENDING LETTER. -

Bloody mofodex at it again.
They might as well just close down their retailing dept and focus on working with 'stinknet' to fine anime dlers.
Well 1 guy is 3000 bucks and lets say they get a modest 25 Dlers per week.(100 per month)
Racking in $300,000 per mth just to send 'negotiation letters'.

From what the majority of the community had seen, receiving the letter probably means you have to pay around $4000 - $5000 for what they claim as 'legal fees'.
A question, are you using Singnet ?
Now it seems, they already have a log of DLers from way back in April. God knows how many they've targetted and where would the 'legal fees' go to.
The more i think about it, the more logical it seems.
mofodex catches DLers > DLers pay 'legal fees' to ???? > Other DLers get scared and buy their crap > Win-Win Situation for them

In corporate terms, 4k-5k settlement fees is peanuts, but it is something that may spook even a person who may not be completely guilty, to actually pay up out of fear. -

where is our freaking consumers privacy laws?
odex/AVPAS is not a government entity, they cannot just go to singnet and say "hey Singnet, I want this person's information as he illegally downloaded our licensed animes", they would have to obtain the information through a legal proceeding in court.
and lets not forget the conflict of interest as AVPAS and ODEX are operated by the same people. -

Who knows what a young kid would do if they were slapped with a $5,000 fine and could not turn to their parents ? Suicide ? Hopefully not.
Lets say 'Odie' only catches 10 DLers a day and only works from Monday to Friday a week. In a month, they'll have 200 names. $5,000 from each of them and they'll be ripping off $1million per month just from "legal settlement".
I just can't see them raking $1 million per month in sales with the popularity they enjoy within the 'otaku' circles now, or even before the clamp-down.(Notorious for their inferior quality products)
Are lawsuits filed against peasants the only way out ?

Secondly, the intangible cost of this action will have serious repercussions on their ability to even maintain or improve on their sales.
Thirdly, AVPAS and ODEX are staffed by the same people. Where is the separation of interest?
Lastly, any claim of offence must be physical in nature and anyone slapped with such a claim has the legal right to demand to see evidence regarding his/her assumed crime.
However, if the people who have been charged per se, do not insist on protecting themselves to the fullest extent of the law and making full use of their rights to ensure that the "prosecution" is legal and valid, and not some smoke-bomb wayang performed by a company who lacks credibility in the anime scene in Singapore; then we will never see the end of it. -

i wonder how do singnet find out which users are using downloading animes? do they randomly choose a account and check?
