I suggest you seek legal advice, and do not say anything that will incriminate you further.Originally posted by Xephone_xenon:Wha lao. Because the IE line is my mum one.
Mayb she will have to go jail leh.
I feel damm guilty now.
Anyway they say if we admit guilty they will settle it out of court.
Then it depends on whether the japan anti piracy company want to charge us.
But they say high chance that fine only. 5k~10k.
But please do not make the worst happen.
If go to jail, i really will buay tar han and break down. Sian.
BTW THEY ARE CHARGING ME FOR THE EPISODES I DLED DURING APRIL.
EVEN BEFORE THEY RELEASE THE NEWS. AND START SENDING LETTER.
Firstly, whoever is hauled up, should seek legal advice and have those "logs of DLers" subpoena-ed. This is an important step to ensure that they do not smoke the layman, especially youth, demographically.Originally posted by Sagara:From what the majority of the community had seen, receiving the letter probably means you have to pay around $4000 - $5000 for what they claim as 'legal fees'.
A question, are you using Singnet ?
Now it seems, they already have a log of DLers from way back in April. God knows how many they've targetted and where would the 'legal fees' go to.
The more i think about it, the more logical it seems.
mofodex catches DLers > DLers pay 'legal fees' to ???? > Other DLers get scared and buy their crap > Win-Win Situation for them
Who's the biggest victim here ? The company or the community ?
agreed... i tink wat they r doing is more likely to b employing a tactic of scaring ... something like killing one to warn a thousand... so dat lesser n lesser pple will dl animes off e net...Originally posted by LazerLordz:In corporate terms, 4k-5k settlement fees is peanuts, but it is something that may spook even a person who may not be completely guilty, to actually pay up out of fear.
For april quite alot.Originally posted by Gordonator:don't worry too much. won't go jail lah. at most just pay fine and pay Odex money for the damage.
anyway how much anime u downloaded in april? average how many episodes per week?
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!!!!!!!???????Originally posted by Xephone_xenon:And i dont want to say anything more liao.
If you want to know. PM me.
Btw their list sibei long. Almost all the anime also got.
4~5 full pages of A4 size paper.Originally posted by MohamedF:Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!!!!!!!???????
Can give more elaboration on their "bigger" list???
They could be trying to pull your leg and asking you to settle... We still have no proof about their "extended" list...Originally posted by Xephone_xenon:4~5 full pages of A4 size paper.
$4k-5k not really peanuts if you see it from the perspective of a younger person. They simply cannot afford it and have to turn to their parents for help.Originally posted by LazerLordz:In corporate terms, 4k-5k settlement fees is peanuts, but it is something that may spook even a person who may not be completely guilty, to actually pay up out of fear.
I'm saying it is peanuts, in the corporate perspective. But for a kid, it is almost the "end of the world". I shudder to think if a kid commits suicide over this.Originally posted by Sagara:$4k-5k not really peanuts if you see it from the perspective of a younger person. Who knows what a young kid would do if they were slapped with a $5,000 fine and could not turn to their parents ? Suicide ? Hopefully not.
Lets say 'Odie' only catches 10 DLers a day and only works from Monday to Friday a week. In a month, they'll have 200 names. $5,000 from each of them and they'll be ripping off $1million per month just from "legal settlement".
I just can't see them raking $1 million per month in sales with the popularity they enjoy within the 'otaku' circles now, or even before the clamp-down.(Notorious for their inferior quality products)
Are lawsuits filed against peasants the only way out ?
from HWZ thread, they said singnet has a connection log of every customer they have.Originally posted by Gordonator:i wonder how do singnet find out which users are using downloading animes? do they randomly choose a account and check?
