Depressing anime

Here's one:
Stardust Memory 0083. The two outstanding character and rivalries eventually died. The ending song was kinda fittinglly.
Another nice one is 0080, War in The Pocket. Innocence lost, friendship lost... potentially a romance lost... forever. -

The storyline was AWESOME!! Especially compared with Gundam Wing, Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny.
Btw, does hentai anime counted when we are looking for sad anime? I saw one recently and I think it is very sad. -

From another point of view, actually all anime is sad and depressing, no matter how shallow the theme may be.
Because not all character get what they want at the end of the story. They develop one character that is to the viewer's liking, then the character will get all the good thing in the show. So those not develop, or not developed well enough, will be the bad guys lor, then they will not get what they desire. If some viewer become that type of anime character's fan, they will think it is a sad show because their idol did not get their ideal ending in the ideal world.
Come to think of it, Makai Senki Disgaea is also considered a sad anime. It is funny in the beginning and the process, but it has a sad ending. (Come to think of it, it's not that sad. Rather, it's somewhat expected.) -

Just tried Grave of the Fireflies, very realistic, emotion based on humane realism, non-fictional type. Solemn instrumental soundtrack very suitable to the malechonical pessimistic theme.
Does anyone know if the producer of Grave of the Fireflies has also produced other anime? -
Akira- Christmas Wish; an adult anime about Akira intensely involve in the darkside sentiments of love and lust, about repressed and intense carnal desires of Akira. Very good.
