  This has got to be one of the best story driven anime I've watched this year!

  ---------------------- Brief Synopsis (provided by Point-blank) ----------------------
  
  Kenzou Tenma is an extremely talented brain surgeon at the start of a promising career in a Düsseldorf hospital. Tenma has it all: money, esteem, a beautiful fiancée...It doesn't take long however until he realizes he's being used by hospital politics and that the management isn't interested in saving lives, but maintaining a positive image of the facility.
  
  One day Tenma ignores a direct order from above. He refuses to operate on the mayor, but instead decides to stay true to medical ethics and save the patient brought in earlier - a boy shot in the head, who survived carnage in his own home. Tenma pays a high price for his humanitarian actions: His girl turns her back on him, he loses his position in the hospital hierarchy. His career is heading for the imminent downfall. To make matters worse, it starts becoming evident that the boy Tenma saved was much more than he appeared to be. A series of murders throughout Germany follows, all bearing the signature of Johan Liebert, the child Tenma helped escape death.
  
  To correct his past error, Tenma must get to the bottom of the mysterious homicides, and investigate the truth of the Monster who is behind all of this. The kind-hearted doctor will soon have to discover that it takes one monster to defeat another...

  The genre is mystery/thriller. The mood and atmosphere set by the anime is amazing. I have never seen any other anime that sets the mood this well. The anime truly lets you feel the eeriness flowing out from the screen.
  
  Couple with tight editing, each episode leaves you wanting more, until the last episode where the doctor faces the monster, ONE ON ONE.
  
  Fans of conspiracy theory might like this because the plot is one that's big enough to entangle all the key charactors in it.
  
  This is one of the most under-rated anime, but one of the best around.

  I only have book 1. At that time, many years ago, it didn't catch my attention.

  i dl the manga collection, deleted it without readin to save space..and recently dl again
  
  maybe i shud dl the anime instead. I think thats at least 50ep if im not mistaken

  I watched the whole series, episodes 1-76 (or 75 i cant remember)
  
  All I can say is, sometimes the story drags a little too much to be desired
  
  And fans of action anime will be disappointed. Not much action, its just suspense and drama

  watching up to ep 15,quite interesting so far but its strange that he went around using his real name and without using any disguise when hes a wanted man.

  he is a real honest man. he juz avoid using his name, and ppl juz mistook him for a viet since asians all seem the same to the local folks.
  
  but i really admire dr. tenma though, one of my favourite characters in memory for all time.

  just finished it and its pretty good but the series is a bit too long,some side stories like eg. episode 20 are not really necessary.
  
  The ending part is kinda confusing though and I still dun quite understand how Johan can cause others to kill for him.

  New Line Cinema has also recently acquired rights to create an English language film version. Josh Olson, whose best-known work has been adapting A History of Violence in 2005, has agreed to write a screenplay adaptation for the movie, and also script a second Monster movie for the studio.
