Not that he's afraid, but at his age he wouldn't have the enthusiasm to fight Alonso on the track when the margin between them wasn't big enough (due to the extra fuel he was carrying).Originally posted by Gedanken:I don't buy that, KB. If MS had indeed had more than enough to win, he would have done something at either Turn 1 or Turn 13.
That is, unless the car's good enough and MS has finally encountered a driver he's scared of overtaking.
I dont think he is afraid, nor his age is affecting his driving. I believe MS is just being sensible because there is no point taking such a risk when you already know that you are have good strategy plan out for you.Originally posted by Kuali Baba:Not that he's afraid, but at his age he wouldn't have the enthusiasm to fight Alonso on the track when the margin between them wasn't big enough (due to the extra fuel he was carrying).
Maybe we'd see fireworks if he was Rosberg Jr's age, or if he was still behind after the final round of pitstops.
That sensibility come with age (and trust in your race engineer/technical director), just as you won't see the young footballers chase every backpass a few years from now.Originally posted by Gazelle:I dont think he is afraid, nor his age is affecting his driving. I believe there will be fireworks if MS didnt come out from the 2nd pit stop ahead of alonso.
When i say crucify, I mean in lap times. It is about 0.45 sec faster, that to me is a big gapOriginally posted by Gedanken:Well, there you go, then. MS didn't crucify Alonso - Ross Brawn just made yet another good call and they finally got that 248 dialled in right. Now if MS doesn't count too much on his tail gunner to win races for him (can anyone say Austria?), we just might have a nice little scrap for the WDC this season.
MS was never a overtaker. think back to 01 to 04. He never really tried overtaking. He always sat on someone's gearbox and waited till the other person pitted before banging in some super fast laps. Even with the quickest car beneath him, he doesn't overtake.Originally posted by Gedanken:I don't buy that, KB. during those years, he was always the leading car, how to overtake?Originally posted by HENG@:MS was never a overtaker. think back to 01 to 04. He never really tried overtaking. not always.Originally posted by Gazelle:during those years, he was always the leading car, how to overtake?
Awww, that's not really fair, Heng. Don't you remember his two overtaking moves in Austria? man, did he take the lead in convincing style!Originally posted by HENG@:MS was never a overtaker. think back to 01 to 04. I must qualify, i am a white and blue fanOriginally posted by SBS9828X:i see Red fans and anti-red fans
white and blue? Williams? Or Sauber?Originally posted by Gazelle:I must qualify, i am a white and blue fan
More a case of fans of so-called #1 drivers who can't win without tail gunners and fans of those who can.Originally posted by SBS9828X:i see Red fans and anti-red fans
Hmm, you mean a piddly little 5-time WDC like Fangio was just showing off?Originally posted by Gazelle:When you are a young driver, you NEED to overtake in order to get notice. When you are a 7 time world champion, all you need is to win the race.

I think we're getting into the discussion of the difference between a driver and a racer.
