n the mid 1990s, Malaysia was undergoing a huge change. Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Malaysia's Prime Minister was determined that by 2020, the country would be a fully industrialised nation. The best way to do this, it was thought, was through the auto trade.
The nation's number one oil company, Petronas, began investing heavily in Formula One with Sauber, and Malaysia's national car company, Proton, bought Lotus Engineering. The most extravagant part of the plan however was the building of a multimedia 'supercorridor', linking Kuala Lumpur's new international airport with the capital city itself. Mahathir ordered that a Grand Prix track be constructed too, and not just any track. He wanted to create a track that would be the envy of the world in terms of its facilities and technology. What he got was the Sepang International Circuit, and it did not disappoint.
Designed by Hermann Tilke, Sepang is one of the most technical circuits in Formula One. The combination of long high-speed straights, and tight twisting complexes make the track very complicated, but also perfect for overtaking as the track itself is very wide. The drivers love it and, along with Malaysia's distinct atmosphere, it makes for an experience unique in Formula One. -

Motor Racing: F1 drivers in Singapore en-route to Sepang race
SINGAPORE : The first season of the Formula One started in Bahrain last week, with defending champion Fernando Alonso once again taking the chequered flag.
But now the drivers are preparing for the second race in Sepang, Malaysia, as two drivers stop over in Singapore on their way there.
Torro Rosso's Vitantonio Liuzzi and Red Bull Racing's test driver Robert Doornbos were in unfamiliar surroundings at Sentosa.
Instead of the F1 racing circuit, they were swimming with sharks at the Underwater World.
Afterall, these guys are used to taking risk in their everyday jobs.
But antics aside, the teams are getting ready for the weekend race in Sepang, dubbed the "hottest race" in F1.
Liuzzi says: "This week will be tough for every team, because Malaysia will be really hot race. This will make it really warm in there, hard for all the other teams. One good side is that we got V10 engines, we are the only team with V10, with less power, so we should have an edge, more reliable in that condition and this I think will help us a lot." - CNA/de -

You can get a good view from any point around the track.
Turn 1 (K1/2) and 7/8 (Stand F or G if I'm right) are especially nice. -

Ferrari's front wing is under investigation by the FIA, after TV pictures suggested that it contravenes the rules outlawaing movable aerodynamic devices, Speedtv.com can reveal.
On-board pictures seen on the German Premiere satellite channel - but not on the worldwide feed - apparently showed the upper elements folding out of the way after retaining pins came out of their holes under load.
Several teams were alerted to the story by people watching in Europe, and have made their feelings known to the FIA. The cars are due to be checked this morning. Rivals of the Scuderia had already complained about the possibility of flexible rear wings after the Bahrain race, where the Ferraris had the highest straightline speeds. -

surprisingly, MS beaten by teammate Massa, finishing 6th n 5th respectively. They couldn't find a way to sneak MS past Massa via pitstops?

Pity that Klien made such a silly mistake. Wonder if MS's got more Ferrari powered bitches? Would have been a more compelling race with Kimi here today. -
pity about Kimi, Heidfeld, Nico n Webber...
Kimi was a potential winner taken off on the 1st lap.
Heidfeld had an engine failure 9 laps from end, throwing a 5th place away.
the 2 williams were running strongly in the top 8. both suffered engine failures. -
kimi's aggressive driving is fast leading to recklessness.
