Ingredients:
5 Granny Smith apples (about 6 cups)
1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
1/2 cup nuts, chopped
1 package (9 ounces) yellow cake mix (do not follow box instructions.)
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
(Optional: Vanilla ice cream or thawed, frozen whipped topping )
Method:
1. Preheat oven to 350F. Peel, core and slice apples. Cut apples in half crosswise and place in round 10 or 11 inch cake pan.
2. Microwave butter on HIGH for 60 seconds or until melted. Chop nuts coarsely. Add nuts, cake mix, sugar and cinnamon in bowl until crumbly. Sprinkle mixture evenly over apples.
3. Bake 35-40 mins or until apples are tender and topping is golden brown. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped topping (I use Cool Whip.)
