I personally feel that the 6mths 50% rental discount is very beneficial for new drivers. 6 mths should be able to learn most of spore routes with lesser stress to cover rental costs.
6 mths not enough , to ditch away the GPS need at least 3 years

don't worry about routes, you learn as you go.
but bear in mind:
a. avoid accident at all costs
b. avoid committing traffic and parking offences at all cost
c. try to avoid certain indian pax and those who might vomit in your car

During my last meet with all taxi companies, they already acknowledge that lowering of rental is the key to attract taxi drivers, not the incentives or benefits, so they decided to lower it, then calculate the short change, then reduce the incentives and benefit accordingly to compensate the lost in their rental.
Be guided
agree with bowah
What are the benefits and incentives that will be forgo?
Bowah, you dont be conned by those management. If the balancing between rental income versus incentives/benefits was so easily done and can be done to the point of ZERO financial impact, all our taxi companies would not have taken so many years to reduce the rentals.
So my point is that taxi rentals are their main source of income and all those reductions from incentives and benefits cannot cover their costs. In short, they will see a drop in profits. Cannot escape one. Dont be fooled.
Let's take SMRT offer as an example:
2 weeks free rental and 5.5 months @$59 a day. That is about $10k in rental for 6 months.
Now rental for 6 month for existing loyal partners. $127 a day minus 1 free day rental per month and 6 months incentive of $1.5k loyalty discount. That is about $19.7k in rental for 6 months.
So what benefits what incentives???? The taxi companies calls taxi drivers as Partners. I guess it is partners that they can Screw!!
Transcab boss is smart. He knows that existing drivers can jump to other companies and enjoy the promotional rates. But he bit the bullet and extend the discount to existing drivers too. Only companies like CDG and SMRT are willing to screw their driver and expect to get away with it. If we taxi drivers dun make a stand now we will never have a chance in future.
World War 3 begin......
CDG cumming out $59 rental OMO 3 yrs old So Langba in Feb.......
Knn, cheaper than what I had started driving taxi last time.......
It will be musical chairs with taxi companies offering 6 months promotion. They still think they can revert back to the 100% rental after the 6 months. So drivers will jump company to company and might even jump to PHV if they also decide to start rental war.
