Lets say passenger do not say what route to take.
Is it always safer to take the shortest distance than the fastest route?
Shortest distance meaning = more traffic lights (maybe jam) and reach destination about 10 mins later.
Fastest route meaning = longer distance but smoother (maybe using expressway faster so it is longer) and reach destination about 10 mins earlier.
This is what I think (not sure):
It is safer to take the Shortest distance (even if longer time), because if unreasonable pax complain jam and late, you still can explain that you taken the shortest route.
If take fastest route (usually faster during normal condition), if unlucky time have jam, unreasonable pax can complain and say you purposely take longer distance route to reach late, even if you explain that usually is faster and smoother also no use because it is longer distance.
GPS also have a setting to choose shortest or fastest.
Should I use shortest or fastest? If the pax never say anything.

LTA regulations states "shortest and most direct" route (so not necessarilly must take all the shortcuts as shortcuts are not too direct).
Last time I was in Comfort office months ago when I was still on probation for taking longer routes, the officer there told me take the shortest not the fastest route (although the shortest route may cause customers to pay more due to traffic lights waiting times and possible cause them to incur more ERP charges).
If meet customers that make a fuss out of it, dont argue, just offer him/her a discount to please him/her and proceed on to find your next customer. Otherwise your whole day's mood becomes bad and you may also get another complain.
However the best way is still what Bowah said (propose and wait for his agreement). However many a times I bypass this step too as most of the times, it is more than simple steps like take SLE then CTE.
I personally do not use GPS as I do not want people to say that even taxi drivers depend on GPS and thereby giving them more reasons to push for driverless taxis to eliminate us ( Google is right now into driverless research too ).

I got called to Comfort Office due to 3 complains. All happened during the first 6 months probation periods. One complained to me too, one silent and one due to MDT problem (that time did not show screen for accepting evoucher so difficult to claim back customer not happy and complained). Luckily Comfort officer said you still on probation and reaons why you received complain is because you are still new and not too familiar with the routes . Drafted an appeal letter with his help including promising to put in effort to improve my knowledge of the routes in Singapore . He told me if I do receive Comfort's termination of contract letter ignore it. I received one a month later which I obviously ignored.

True, now more unused taxis in companies....but GC/Uber also caused customers to be lost. Last time got a lot of mid to long distance customers now a lot of them went to GC and Uber that offers lower rates to them.
One cabby who was interviewed by asiaone.com described Grabtaxi as 忘æ©è² 義 saying they helped Grabtaxi build up customerbase to where it is right now only to be betrayed by them when they started GrabCar to compete with us.
Grabtaxi is good as they help the taxi drivers who rented from the other 4 taxi companies form a big enough alliance for customers to want to use them to call for taxi.
Think TS is wit cdg
Tats y worry so much abt complains lol
Grabtaxi was not very profitable to begin with. It is why they started grabcar. But the business has sufficient potential to get a series C funding in Oct 2014.
From seed funding to series C, which is about 4 rounds of funding, the original founders are left with around 10% of company shares.
So whatever 'evil' you perceive, it is coming from the major investors, and guess who are they?

quite true, nowadays to make a living from driving, need not be a cabby or with any particular company. gone are the days where cuntfuck leads in calls.
when pax do not have any route in mind, suggest your best route based on experience, but of course, we can control if there's a sudden accident or traffic jam
Route, very difficult to teach one, must go master yourself.......
Once drive taxi many years, season liao, pax on board, destination, split second, move off.......
Road is dead one, even come out new road, just need 1 round to familiarize only.......
Why worry so much? Ku ku will just kena 1 idiot pax want you to go aeroplane route, just go la, won't die lor.......

Open your mouth and ask lah..most of the time, pax will tell. But once in a while, even if you open mouth, the reply from pax will be "you are the taxi driver, how should I know?" or something like that. These are the one kind of pax that works in CBP and stays around Simei Rise.

even though we are taxi drivers, we won't know their 'preferred route' as we at times will rather bring them to holland, go longer, but smooth traffic way.
at times when pax is clueless, from east want to go town, i go via ecp up as i hate the bottleneck on pie and pie>cte

There r some paxs act smart will guide u but when lost.they will fcuk u n say u r the taxi drvr U should know the way!
fetch a local lady from airport to Bukit merah view. i asked her to choose the route but she said just move. so i told her can i use PIE, she said can
when i reach steven road/whitley along PIE she asked me "why didn't you take the ECP" ?
KNN like that next time cannot ask which route, must pass them a notebook and write it down, pretend you are partially deaf. If pax ask why got disability and still drive, the show them your notebook and say you previously work in a thai disco until got hearing problem.

My goodness, got to repeat again, is he the same guy that been told off by the pax on the same situation?.......
Airport cum out, only 3 expressway to go........
TPE, go to North, North-East, and sometime, West or North-West.......
PIE, basically can go anywhere in SG, but......not places like Bukit Merah, Commonwealth, Alexandra kind of area.......
ECP, don't need to say, everywhere that are along the Eastern and Western corridor of SG........
When pax say up to you from AP, most time they meant, plying the normal way, but when exit from expressway, is up to us to manoveur toward their destination.......
For example, if going to Bukit Merah View, going by ECP (don't need to ask de), once exit by Lower Delta, you want to go straight also can, turn left by Henderson also can......
So in the 1st place, why ask about PIE, giving a chance for pax to screw you up........

Sometimes I take taxi, the driver silent all the whole journey. Seems like a good tactic to avoid any problem.
Example: I board taxi, then tell driver destination, then the driver start driving without speaking a word. Whole journey driver never speak at all.
1 day down the road, 99% of pick up no issue lor, so most TD choose not to ask, lu ask lu complicated.......
Yishun sent to Orchard Taka, Taka pick up go Holland Road, Holland Road heng heng pick up back to Taka, than no pax, go Mandarin Hotel pick up go Airport, Airport png go Inter-Continental Hotel, png go ORQ, finally at ORQ, pax say go Lim Tua Tao Road, suddenly blank out, so ask lor.......
Most TD more or less everyday also like that la, mostly straight forward route, where got so many problem.......
