Good morning folks.
The realisation of getting my ass to Dhaka this summer is getting closer.

Had to do a marathon tuition session last night. As I said previously, his teacher made them do algebraic word problems without teaching basic algebra first.
The kid told me that his friends said that they managed to understand algebraic word problems only because their own parents/older siblings/tutors taught them.
Give me five minutes with this irresponsible teacher, and I'll F = ma him in the groin, then v^2 = u^2 + 2as him over the balcony from thirty stories high.

I now have two students who are rather clueless about their subject.
And then I asked the new student what he's here for.
He said: Cos my mum wants me to get an A.

Yeah.
Students always have the same problem. Its common sense, but they can't express this common sense in the subject for some reason.
I think its the education system that made them all this rigid.

Back in JC, Economics was my weakest link.
I failed every single essay test in JC 1 and seriously considered dropping the subject.
Even through JC 2 I had a tough time.
Somehow I managed to get away with an A at the A Levels.

At JC level, most of us are unable to confidently pen what we know, and our opinions effectively.
Unfortunately, as I always emphasise to my students, what sets a good essay apart from a normal one, is really your personal opinion and how convincingly you write.
They always asked me if I was teaching GP or Econs, and my retort is that I'm teaching more useful life-skills than mere specific subject-oriented skills.
