same lah.. when i left SAF, i only got admin (army admin niah) and typing and computer skills.. lucky i gotten my UK diploma pple as backup when applying for the job, i got a better salary.. took me 1/2 year to understand and handle pple differently..cos the 4 years i was evolved in my tiny office with the same officers and staffs...

i still haven't reach the low levels of other photographers who make clones to make it seem like their business is good and bluff other people. (yes, the big name ones u see now, used to do it when they were still small)
business is doing good considering that my progress has been "clean"

that is why i am against wedding photography in general
just to climb up, they have clones who will go into forums to say "oh, the photos is very nice" or "i booked this guy, how is he?" then another clone come in and say "oh he's good..." blah blah blah
then u gotta meet customers to sweet talk them to choose you
then u keep going to crapsnap to post up photos. the bad thing about crapsnap is that if u post often enough, soon you will have a fan base who will say your photos are fantastic no matter what.
and u keep posting and posting and posting until people know u and give thumbs up
then again, this is all in the beginning when u are up and coming OR a nobody
when u have broken through and established yourself, u just sit back and relax, customers come to you, and no matter how crap your photos are, people still believe they paid top dollar for you.
just let me know if u are interested in seeing rubbish images and people pay so much money for it, i can show u via PM
that's why i am happy that i still get good business without resorting to these. i can't tell people all the bullshit those other people spew out to get customers to choose their services.

ooh.. i know about this ..
dun say wedding photography,normal outing, they have groups ..say kakis..
one of them post craps, they rest will says very good even the pic is like any standard no brainer shots..
lucky my friend dun post pics at cs..
he got referred by his own clients .. :)

he just got invited and done event as spoke person for one of the camera brand on photography now :) he got sponsorship and loan for cam eqpt :) i am sure he got the right track...

if u notice the big name fellas are not that active in crapsnap anymore because the objective of conning people have been met
anyway i have first hand experience in seeing all that happening.
its after that, i told myself that i will never resort to something like that.
i rather make my slow climb up the commercial side. the photographer i look up to, only boomed at 38yrs old. so i still have time to climb cleanly.

maybe its good experience to join him during his wedding shoots..
done it once and though he commented i got most blur pics.. got a few "good" ones that his clients like and chose.. *gimme encouragement bah*
its good learning opportunities bah.. i gotto start somewhere :)

first time meeting them? i would have thought you would have met the siblings before the parents?plus it's usually easier with the siblings rather than the head honchos; something like similar age group, interests etc.
