somemore he was alone
why should he been alone in the first place ? .....
are we that farking strapped for manpower ? .....
or it's a cost cutting measure ? .....
once upon a time I felt so safe with 24 hour NPPs ......
now I hardly even see a mata chia around, except at weekend roadblocks ......
wtf ? .....

no they are not .....
our mata always had this practical approach when it comes to these sort of things .... keep it down to an acceptable level, and they won't chup too much also ... that's why we still have illegal ciggy sellers rampant, illegal immigrants galore, "freelancers" everywhere, bookies in the heartlands, and fighting punks at boat quay .....
I have witnessed 4 fights recently ..... the latest one at clarke quay at 3am on a saturday ..... people were chasing each other all over the place ... with only one elderly malay security guard trying to give chase ........ before that I saw about 20 kids kicking the shit out of another at marina right across the durian .... tourists were happily taping the scene on video cams ....
that is more than what I've witnessed in the 23 years before I went overseas .......
we may laugh at malaysia .... but I think we are fast catching up ....
meanwhile ..... a few harmless nutcases mount a protest .... and the ang chia gets deployed .... that says a lot about the priorities of the police, neh ? ...
overstretched
even over pedestrain and motorist, seems also bo chap anymore... say motorist has more blame
as for issue of fights, I dunno but I've a feeling do they simply start w/ just 1 simple quarrel w/ ppl you dunno and later on e group of friends take side
or street gangs are back?
*me mysteriously appears in a flash of lightning*
Just got back from jogging.

the street gangs have always been around the heartlands ....
just that the powers-that-be doesn't know, or care ......
why should they ? ... they don't live in the heartlands .....

maybe you don't hang around at the right places .....
go stand at marina square on a late saturday evening, and tell me wat you see .....
want to see a fight ? .... go to boat quay any night of the week .... I know a chap who works at cafe there ..... there is trouble almost every single night ...... but the police turns a blind eye cos it's mostly low lives hammering low lives ......
haiz
I think cos no one makes it to e press w/ pics

otherwise? expect that sg is a total safe country with no fights, no illegal stuff going on, no punks, no street gangs?
Comparing to a lot of countries, I think sg is quite good already.. I feel safe going out late at night...

no .......
compared to other cities we are darn safe ......
but the underbelly of our society has been festering slowly .... and we have been too complacent about our security and our civic society .....
nevermind about mas selamat escaping, or poor wretched ciggy sellers infesting woodlands ....
we may have no drug dealers on the streets, no ghettos where people fear to tread, but the mental image of what I imagined Singapore to be, has been shattered .... I told all my overseas friends we are a nice, clean, safe country with no beggars, no street sleepers, where the youths are orderly and well-behaved, and people respect the law, where you don't expect to see pub fights as part of the normal saturday night scene ... or roving gangs of punks going around looking for trouble ....
maybe I'm too jaded now, or too naive before ... but I like to think I was no prude before that .... that i've "been round the block" enough and partied enough to know all of the above is no longer true ....
and if we start to accept that having an underbelly is the norm .... then I think it's only a slippery one way street down .....
i think those street gangs gotta be cleared
carry on like tis, one fine day you're going to see havoc at Boat Quay

And, unfortunately, the situation isn't going to get any better as the population surges toward 6 million with the attendant increase in stress levels.
I've been seeing more road rage cases as in openly one i.e. nasty hand signals or sort
