Singapore has its charm and merits. I never knew I'd live to say this but after living in Melbourne for a year, I must emphasise what I thought of before I left - that if I could somehow become much richer, life here can actually be good.Originally posted by av98m:Well, as long as he likes local food and the 2 of you can deal with the horrendously overcrowded conditions in Singapore, which are only going to get worse...........
Oh, not to mention the ever rising cost of living.
Because I'm still not feeling well. That spinning thing returned.Originally posted by elindra:Rhonda since you are free most of the day why not pop by vivocity instead of rotting in front of the pc since the book is important?
Jetta, I guess the both of you have to decide what are your priorities and the sacrifices you guys wanna make
Oh dear the weather is not treating you kindly *pat pat*Originally posted by Rhonda:Because I'm still not feeling well. That spinning thing returned.
But I'm not rotting because I don't smell any sulphur.

I'm quite young because I grew up at a time when HDB flats had already sprung up and my paternal and maternal grandparents lived in apartments.Originally posted by the Bear:the smells of overexposure and all that.. was part of Singapore in the past...
is still pretty much standard in many parts of Malaysia...
and is still part of the areas where us NS fellas go to...
is not the smell of the shopping malls
Eh, izzit? According to the Nobel Laureate, the Bear, watching too much Korean drama series results in your brain matter dripping out of your ears leh, didn't mention anything about ear infections wor!Originally posted by the Bear:aha... ear infection..
must be due to the drama serials you watch
dang ....... how come no Cs and Ds .......Originally posted by fudgester:My results (name and matriculation number pixellated out, of course):
My point average has dropped slightly (it was 4.13 out of 5 last semester), but I'm not complaining.
I honestly expected it to be worse.

By the time I was born, sewerage systems were already up and running and sanitation standards were much higher than AHEM... 'days of yore'.
Methinks me didn't grow up in a shittier era!
/me runs outta da way, for this Bear isn't caged!!
It is juvenile here, compared to countries like the US and Australia. It can get really rough growing up in neighbourhood schools in the States. I don't think I would've survived.Originally posted by av98m:Bullying is also becoming a more serious problem in Singapore's schools today, and it shows no signs of abating.
Just thought I'd point it out.
I was at the receiving end of bullies back in school.Originally posted by av98m:Bullying is also becoming a more serious problem in Singapore's schools today, and it shows no signs of abating.

Going by a logical progression of the topic of the day, erm... if you go off the beaten track, you'll go see places where sewerage rots, for instance, and you'll be enriched spiritually?Originally posted by the Bear:you'd be surprised how messed up the sewerage system was in the 80s..
and you'd be surprised.. nevermind
take comfort that you never had to see these things.. or smell them..
btw, sometimes when you vacation, you go off the beaten track, into the places where the real people live and not a facade for tourists, you'd see a lot of things which guidebooks never tell you..
and somehow, you will be enriched spiritually
time to tough up ur sweet character, bullies grow up to become ur colleagues in the futureOriginally posted by fudgester:I was at the receiving end of bullies back in school.
Heck, I was still at the receiving end of bullies even when I was in the army.
Gee, I must be a mighty evolved human being then, able to function well with an imploded brain...Originally posted by the Bear:your brain has to implode and rot first...
the rotting infects your ears.. which therefore affects your balance.. which manifests itself in the 'spinning thing'
*called 'vertigo', but since brain has imploded....*
Unfortunately school authorities here also do not take it very seriously, and very often when a child complains of bullying, it is either shrugged off as "boys will be boys" or both bully and victim are punished.Originally posted by Rhonda:It is juvenile here, compared to countries like the US and Australia. It definitely isn't all rosy here, but certain things, this place comes up tops in my opinion.
