195 MB .... some smart engineer tried to push about 10 years worth of data through the wire onto the web application I wrote up and actually put up a bug wondering why the application was timing out on him .... a P.Eng no less .... -

we once tried to pull up 1 year of data through our dedicated and isolated network for statistical purposes and everything went to heck
only then did the tech side figure out that you can have the newest and whatever, and if you want to move so much data, your network better be up to it
well, they learnt or at least i learnt... the next round, i made sure the network was up to it.. in fact, i think we overdid it...
during UAT testing, we pushed through 100x the peak load and there was no slowdown for about 20 minutes.. only then was the test passed -

the original file on freehand (which we don't have) was even bigger.. it is ONE picture

A county worker had entered an incorrect ZIP code on a client notice that was generated (but not yet printed) by the mainframe the previous night. We couldn't programatically correct it as the 'print' dataset had already been built.
So I offered to help by opening the dataset in the 'edit' mode and manually correcting the ZIP code. I didn't think the fact that the dataset was 7 GB in size would be an issue, so I fired up a terminal emulator session and selected the dataset for editing, and waited. And waited. And waited.
Hmmm... maybe they're having mainframe access problems now, I thought, so I minimized the emulator session and proceeded to do other stuff.
About five minutes late, I got a call from a rather irate network support drone who wanted to know why almost all of the mainframe's memory buffer pools had my user ID attached to them. She explained that the buffer pools were used to facilitate disk I/O, and that by hogging almost all of them, I had caused the mainframe to slow to a crawl, and county workers throughout the state were calling tech support to report that their terminal sessions had locked up.
Needless to say, I now know a little more about how the mainframe 'handles' very large files for editing.

good GOD the boss is irritating...
she has to go somewhere for a course now.. she could not bloody go there from home and she has to come to the office to irritate people for 35 minutes first...
then she doesn't know where it is.. so i tell her since i know where that place is..
i pull up an internet map and show her, telling her exactly how to go there...
she hasn't a clue where it is but keeps interrupting with wrong directions.. almost insisting that her way is right.. when the place she is describing is nowhere near the correct place..
i print the map and tell her exactly what to tell the cabbie.. she keeps interrupting saying that the cabbie has no idea where it is... damn but she can be a pain...
so i print out the bloody map and tell her to give it to the cabbie...
soon, she's going to grow 2 points in her hair -

It seems to me that she seems to like being in control of things, and gets annoyed at even the slightest hint of not being in control of something.
I think that she thinks that when you told her how to get there, it is an indication of being unable to control things herself.... so she insisted on her own way of getting there as a means of asserting control.
I really dread to think how she's gonna have kids in the future. -
