FOrd Tank? Are you referring to one of those old-style Falcon sedans?Originally posted by dakboyan:Great Ocean Road...wow!
Its been like close to 5 years since i last went there with my army buddies..E 4 of us decided to go for a road trip with me driving (im e only one with licence then)...all the way from Melbourne City Center to Olinda up in the Blue Mountains and finally down to Great Ocean Road itself.
It must have been like 3 days driving worth...sitting in a rented car we nicknamed the 'Ford Tank' cos of its sheer size and antiquity.
i could still fondly remember the cool breeze of the ocean as we snake our way by the cliffs....haiz. Started out in the morning from Torquay and had our flake fillet breakfast down at Bells Beach..took our time stopping by the few towns ( and the famous huge Gantry) to take pictures and stuff. We arrived at the 12 apostles just in time for the sunset...and i dare say that was the most beautiful scene i had ever seen wif my own eyes. On the way back..we stopped by a town called Lorne for dinner, where they serves the biggest seafood basket a person could ever ask for. Then arrived back at our cabin at Anglesea near to midnite, all exhausted.
Sigh....it was a wonderful trip i had in a long time.
For all fishing and diving fans....The coast of great ocean road is one of the greatest dive sites / fishing sites in Australia. Heaps of marine life in those shipwreaks and submarines. Water gets a little bit cold. Watch out for great whites.... crayfish and abalone are in huge abundance. These things make great meals after your dive.Originally posted by Fatum:believe me Rhonda ... that's where the BIG fishies lurk ....
I remember seeing monster Dogtooth tuna and Mackerals patrolling drop-offs like these on diving trips ...
so ... when are you learning diving again ? ...
yup i think so....heh couldn't really figure out the model of the car tho.Originally posted by iveco:FOrd Tank? Are you referring to one of those old-style Falcon sedans?
Wow! You seem to have had a really awesome time! You remember the names of the places too! Sadly, my memory is really awful these days and it was only when I saw your post that I realised, "Oh yeah! Those were the names of the places we went to!"Originally posted by dakboyan:Great Ocean Road...wow!

Strong winds indeed. Methinks you were pawing the pilot and he temporarily lost control of the 'copter.Originally posted by Rhonda:"Strong winds tilting helicopter! I repeat, strong winds tilting helicopter! Over and Out!"
Yup. Several times, in fact, from LA to SF along the PCH, when I was out in CA visiting my sisters. An incredibly scenic drive, and highly recommended if you have the time, as it does add several hours of travel time vis-a-vis taking the more direct route (I-5).Originally posted by Coquitlam:It's so nice to go for these long extended road trips....sigh but its reality for now before I start my permanent journey to Canada
I remembered the days when I did my ocean drive along Interstate 5 and highway 101....the Pacific Coast drive....anyone done that? share share leh

And this is London Bridge! There used to be land hanging over the waters connecting the two bits but it collapsed recently, leaving tourists stranded on the outer bit but thank goodness, no one was killed when it collapsed. Helicopters were called in to rescue the stranded tourists.
