Rhonda,
I think it's safe to say that your social life is currently hobbled by the absence of a convenient means of personal transportation, i.e., A CAR. Are you currently taking any step to address that shortfall, like taking driving lessons and saving up for a vehicle?
Imagine: if you had your own private vehicle, you wouldn't be at the mercy of public transit. You''d be able to go places, meet people, go on dates, transport bulky objects (not necessarily your date), participate in 'road rage' incidents, get speeding and parking tickets, be in traffic accidents, etc.
Yes, all this and more could be yours, if only you'd get off that couch and go buy your very own CAR!

Hey Rhonda, is car ownership there expensive? Not to be a killjoy or anything, just curious.Originally posted by Rhonda:Aaaah Harharharhahahaha!!!
Well, before I buy a car, I'll have to get a licence first!
Before I get a licence, I have to get the following :
- Computer + Broadband access;
- PR; and
- a few more pieces of furniture and electrical appliance.
I've been out shopping for a PC the past three days and well, PC's aren't exactly cheap here. Guess I can get one now but I'm still going to hold up till CHristmas where I expect there to be more sales and good bundled packages etc. Patience is a virtue!
And... WOOHOO!!! I got more than A$1,000 returned to me by the tax peeps! KEWL!!
Originally posted by jetta:Cars are not too expensive in Oz as compared to Singapore. In Melbourne, one can easily get a brand new litte car for Toyota Echo for A$15k or less. Car rego costs over A$500 a year depending on the type/size/capacity of the car, insurance varies depending on age, location and type of car. The younger the driver (16-25 yo) the more expensive the car insurance will become.

How happy are u as compared as to when you are in singapore?
Extremely happy and I don't ever want to go back to Singapore til I earn my millions and can retire there.
Do u miss Singapore?
Food only
How do u like it over at your new country?
I like it alot. Yes there is some form of mild discrimination present but AT LEAST it is better than Singapore's version of Meritocracy where even your secondary school results can come into consideration , or even whether ur a scholar or not. In Australia , you work and prove yourself - not everything is based on qualifications and scholars are usually people who have already have work experience and are at least masters or PhD's holders. And damn they are also expected to perform ....no one EVER even bothers to cover up mistakes for them - they have to explain themselves .
My parents have already secured permanent residency through sponsorship ...so it is ok for me.
And if any singaporean in australia whines to me about how bad things are in Australia ...my standard reply is " go back to where you come from then since things are so bad for you here and you cannot make it here " . Have one friend who said that to me - now she is also whinging about Singapore being the worst.
Is easy to get a job?
For me yes. Working in Canberra , Worked in Melbourne - basically I am free to travel and stay where I like cept I don't wish to work as a nurse anymore and I am not working as a nurse in Canberra .

HAHAHAHHA : note my sarcasm about not being foreign enough.Originally posted by Gazelle:Kinda of contradicting isnt it? Food only? You mean you dont have friends and relatives?
Other than working for government agencies, you dont really need to be a scholar to make a decent living in Singapore. Opportunity is everywhere in Singapore, you just need to grab them thats all.
Are you sure your parents prefer to migrate to australia and not stay in Singapore? Or are they making a big sacrifice for you?
Just because you are living in a white man's land that does make you any whiter or superior than any Singaporeans or asian.Originally posted by fymk:HAHAHAHHA : note my sarcasm about not being foreign enough.
Don't make my toes laugh . That kind of benefit is reserved for foreign talents , not for local idiots.
Got relatives all over the world ...Great idea ...maybe I can move about in Canada , UK and USA as well .
My parents got eyes - they can see . I don't think it is that way around.....maybe switch the other way to look at it... me was young and foolish til I saw their ways...get the picture?
I didnt question if she likes it there, I am question about her reasoning for being there.Originally posted by Kuali Baba:Why fault her if she likes it there?

Gazelle, what is your point? Care to give some details of where your points/opinions is coming from?Originally posted by Gazelle:I didnt question if she likes it there, I am question about her reasoning for being there.
Are you telling me that you are an ASSHOLE?
If it makes her/him happy, and she/he likes it there, aint tat a good enough reason?Originally posted by Gazelle:I didnt question if she likes it there, I am question about her reasoning for being there.
Not about superiority - you didn't note the sarcasm in there. JEEZ do you have a comprehension problem? You have a problem with me living in a white man's land? For your info - Australia was actually the land of the Indigenous Australians til white man decide to settle there.Originally posted by Gazelle:Just because you are living in a white man's land that does make you any whiter or superior than any Singaporeans or asian.
So what kind of benefits does Australia offer to a foreign talent like you who is taking up jobs which belongs to the Australian?
I see no reason why your parents (at this age) would want to migrate to another city in the foreign land and leave behind all the friends and relatives.
Tell me when they finally make the decision to leave this country. Or else you are just talking Co.ck.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Gazelle strikes again.
My folks never liked Singapore too, and they will gladly follow me out of this place. So that's another one for the team.
Ever consider that some people have more relatives OUTSIDE Singapore?
yeah, then stop whinning about local singaporeasns being idiots and you being the foreign talent in the white man's land.Originally posted by fymk:Not about superiority - you didn't note the sarcasm in there. Ai yah ...don't ask me about benefits . Think about this ...why should I go if I know that they plan on treating me like shat .
SORRY! The world does not run on your terms ....people have several reasons why they want to do things - so kindly get over yourself if you cannot see the reasons why .
Why I like it there? There you go Gazelle ...all my reasons summarised - economic, sentimental , love of home , opportunities .
Go take your chip elsewhere. You have issues, perhaps deepseated ones dating back to your childhood.Originally posted by Gazelle:Tell me when they finally make the decision to leave this country. Or else you are just talking Co.ck.
