  There are dodgy instructors and divemasters from every agency. I don't know why you have to single out SSI (If you haven't guessed by now, I'm SSI certified)

  I still have the very first underwater camera that I've bought ....
  
  an MX-10 with a strobe, wide angle lens, and a macro kit with framer, all packed into a pelican case, selling the whole package for $700 if you're interested ...

  Bah, you can get a canon and its matching housing for less than 1.5k, and forget all the strobes and stuff. I've seen magazine quality pics taken with a simple cam and housing. All the add-ons are only for specialised uses or gear wankers.

  a Robber or Coconut Crab.. they climb trees and sometimes eat coconuts (thus the name).. they are like the hermit crab in that they are not fully armoured and when young, they use shells of other creatures for protection.. later in life, they deposit chalk and other calcified stuff on their abdominal armour to harden it..

  Pistol Shrimp: the thicker claw is its "gun".. the claw creates a bubble which implodes and causes a hugeass shockwave capable of killing its prey up to 6 feet away.. the imploding bubble has been measured to momentarily reach 5,000 degrees and the energy is so intense it gives off light.. the noise from the implosion (causing the shockwave) has been measured at over 200 decibels...
