Allergies and sensitivities

I know this topic has appeared a few times before in shan_cai's place and in Chit Chat.
But May's issue of National Geographic magazine had an article on allergies...as usual it mentioned a rising trend in the number of people with such afflictions, and the theories about genetics, hygiene, nutrition being factors. What's new is the creation of new drugs to combat them.
So once again...what are you allergic or sensitive to? Is your reaction mild, or *touch wood* severe? How do you or your kids cope with it? (And yes I've noticed that someone's signature once said 'Patient is allergic to stupidity'.)
So far I've found that I'm just sensitive to the food additive E621. The better half is allergic to nuts, pollen, honey, cut grass, raw carrots...thankfully not alcohol (unlike my grandmother), but if she comes here I won't be at ease. Our hawkers sometimes can't be arsed with simple requests like 'no pig's liver' - what more altering their recipe, or making sure allergens don't come into contact with the dish? -

My son's allergic to cats. We have good friends who have celiac disease - gluten intolerance. Poor things love to travel but have to pack their own food.

Now if there's such a thing as tobacco allergy, a few people who use their cigarettes as crutches would be eliminated.

hmm i am not sure what am i allergic too
was thinking of this issue, coz in the DVC book, one guy killed another guy who is allergic to peanuts, by crushing some peanuts and putting them in the vodka which he offers -
I don't think I'm allergic to anything.
but eating shellfish will cause me to feel very nauseous. so i don't eat prawns, crayfish, lobster, clams, etc etc. -
I'm allergic to painkillers. Brufen, Aspirin etc..
but im ok with panadol and paracetamol.
I'm allergic to powder or powdery scents. Especially Johnsons and Johnsons's baby powder.. -
i'm not sure..i know when i was young, i always vomitted after eating marshmallows..not sure if u consider it an allergy though..but now ok liao..

im allergic to burn medication burnol. apply liao whole arm will swell n itch...

Hahah stupidity is a certified allergen...
Symptoms: lots of jaw dropping action, eye rolling, pulling of hair
My nose is sensitive ... I have allergic rhinitis, the worst triggers are dust and cold temperature (sudden temperature drop causing nasal blood vessels to constrict and resulting in blocked & runny nose... or something ) Strong perfume & smoke are bad too.
Explains why I avoid housework and have a shawl fetsh
The item I'm also allergic to but still sometimes indulge in are certain types of painkillers ... I go ahead & take it anyway cos there are some days when looking like a goldfish (bloated eye) is preferable to suffering the pain. -
the best place to observe exotic allergies would be the army ....
you see all sorts of things ....
allergic to dust for instance ..... (okie, fair enough, asthma perhaps)
allergic to soil ....... (plausible, but ermmmmm ..... )
allergic to rust ... yes, rust .... (pushing it .... )
and the list goes on ..... to grass, to ant bites, to sweat ......
either the Singapore youth of today has no fortitude and became effete .... or our overly clean urban landscape has spawned a generation of youths unable to operate out of the aircon room .... -

suited up and off we went on the first day.. that night, he was plagued with uncontrolled itch and the next day, he woke up looking like a reptile...
off to the pillroller he went.. we thought "rash"
a few days later, he came back, packed up and went off.. allergy to the certain type of fibre which fatigues were made and we all were issued with... -

no idea man.. the guy was downgraded because of it...

but I'm definitely suspicious of certain types of chaps .... who come in with mysterious doctor's notes claiming fantastic disabilities .... someone ought to check up on those shady docs too ....... -
