singapore alot of things free. free for the pple in charge that is. thye got free money free, transport etc.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:This I doubt so. UK has high taxes is partly because of their free healthcare system. When you have this free, that free, something has to cover it. Their GST covers it. Singapore everything not free, yet taxes so high, will force people away.
yup that is what it is.The higher the value of our currency with other = less competitivness comnpared with other countries whose value did not rise.Originally posted by Rhonda:Noooo... that was a few years back. So now, our currency has grown a tad stronger compared to that time. Therefore, it's good news... unless it makes us less competitive compared to our neighbours cause it would mean that the Americans would now find our goods and services a tad more expensive than before.
why so?Originally posted by InnoHippo:we should scrap Ezlink system ....... it is adding unnecessary cost .......
In Sydney many more of us will be able to afford to drive.Originally posted by SydneyLibrarian:Eh... so the point I'm trying to make is, that you have to experience life in a different city to know that Sg public transport system is really not that bad lah.. to me, anyway.

If we compare to countries, there'll be countries who have better public transport as well as countries that have worse public transport systems.Originally posted by SydneyLibrarian:Ok... I haven't been living in Singapore for the past 2 yrs to take the public transport that regularly, but what I can say is...
in every country & city, no matter where, you will still find people complaining about their public transport system.
When I was in Singapore, I'd complain about the buses & MRT - not efficient enough, too many people on board, too expensive, yada-yada-yada
When I came over to Australia, my oh my, the horrors of the public transport system over here in Sydney! Peak hour trains come every 20 mins, off peak period trains can take up to an hour to arrive. Added to that, the trains are really old (and I mean, like 20 y.o. for some of them!), non-air conditioned for some of them, and soooo crowded. And the expense! Wahh... costs me A$36 per week just to travel from my place to city & back! Buses can be even more expensive
Eh... so the point I'm trying to make is, that you have to experience life in a different city to know that Sg public transport system & its costs aren't really that bad lah.. to me, anyway.
Not forgetting we also have the most expensive transport minister on the face of this planet. So shouldn't the bastard be doing something about it?Originally posted by Rhonda:If we compare to countries, there'll be countries who have better public transport as well as countries that have worse public transport systems.
But I don't really care whether it's better or worse in other countries because right now, I'm living in Singapore, and what I know is that compared to previously, the system IS getting worse. And THAT's what irritates us.
Previously, even on off-peak hours, I can wait for 106 after missing the bus and another will arrive in 15-25 mins' time.
Now, I can wait up to 35-45 mins!
The thing is, if the costs are increasing, why are the systems getting worse?
Hee hee yup the truth is thereOriginally posted by Rhonda:
That's funny!
But actually, not that funny when you realise that what Mr Low said might have truth in it!
It's just too bad he has an idiot in his team that consistently has problems filling up his forms. 2 GEs in a row!Originally posted by Aveme:Hee hee yup the truth is there
well if you have the chance,go down to one of the WP's rally to listen to his speeches,he give really good ones that can relate to the crowd and bring up their fire in them
be kind to minoritiesOriginally posted by av98m:It's just too bad he has an idiot in his team that consistently has problems filling up his forms. 2 GEs in a row!
You mean like actually riding the public buses or MRT during peak hours to experience it from a commuter's point of view? That would be beneath him!! Shame on you for even suggesting that!Originally posted by av98m:Not forgetting we also have the most expensive transport minister on the face of this planet. i tink tt will happen oso... last time when start 2 use ez-link card tt time they say it's 2 prevent ppl frm cheatin bus fare... they say e fare will decrease if ppl pay e correct fare... but nw....Originally posted by Rhonda:There's talk by some members of the opposition that we might see yet another increase in public transport fares... after the election's over.
Do you think this will happen?
Yes...
What improvements do you think ought to be made to our current public transport system?
Are you happy with the current level of service?
precisely why i suggest that they should scrap ezlinkOriginally posted by tt3:i tink tt will happen oso... last time when start 2 use ez-link card tt time they say it's 2 prevent ppl frm cheatin bus fare... they say e fare will decrease if ppl pay e correct fare... but nw....
