Prepare for an exciting sword-fighting drama with Channel 8’s brand new weekend slot. Come August 1, 2004, every Saturday and Sunday from 7pm – 9pm, viewers can watch out for novelist Louis Cha’s well-loved classic, The Heavenly Sword And The Dragon Sabre.
The riveting drama is set at the end of the Yuan Dynasty where Mongolians were in control of China. Protagonist and hero, Zhang Wu Ji rises to become the most powerful pugilist of the era as he fights his way and emerges victorious from the vicious conspiracies and tussles of the martial arts world.
Zhang is the one who helped bring about the downfall of the Yuan Dynasty and the eventual rise of the Ming Dynasty. His numerous love affairs and entanglements also provide colourful backdrop to the intriguing epic.
A co-production between China and SingaporeÂ’s MediaCorp Studios, this blockbuster period drama stars Alec Su You Peng, Jia Jing Wen, Zhang Tie Lin, Zhang Guo Li, Xu Jin Jiang and MediaCorpÂ’s very own Phyllis Quek and Florence Tan.

The original one is the one with Adam Cheng, Lisa Wong and Zhao Yazhi.
It was filmed in Singapore in the 1980s (I think).
I saw the VCD of this production recently. The Zhou Zhiruo (acted by Zhao Yazhi) was quite a guai lan character...haha -
This is the dont know number how many thousand versions of the same story liao.

I was going to say that when I saw your first post. The story line was distorted and the acting is lousy. The actors chosen are also unsuitable for the characters. Su Youpeng to young and boyish for Zhang Cuishan. Kitty Li Mei Xian was the one in the TVB remake (I like her the best)
Gigi Lai was the one in the second remake with Lawrence Ng as the lead... (real no brainer - a guy almost as old as me to be Zhang Wuji)
Then there is Ye Tong in the Taiwan Yang Pei Pei production with Mah Zhing Tao as Zhang Wuji.
This current one (donchno the name) is quite cute with those big black eyes...
Personally, the current one looks good. May have diverted from the originally a little, but attempts to address the loop holes created by Louis Cha. Eg. Why wasn't White Eye Brow Eagle King present during the Display The Sabre ceremony. I had always wondered about this one.... important wu ling event and he and his lustful son is absent.... at least this show tried to explain that there is something more important happening.... -

Saw the VCD. That version, the Zhao Min died in the end, when the Ming Jiao people attacked her for being a Mongolian princess.
Then Zhang Wuji became a little mad due to severe depression over Zhao Min's death.... kept hallucinating seeing her shadow. Then the story ended there. -
