Jacelyn Tay, after shocking locals by declaring a state of bankruptcy a few years back, is setting tongues wagging again, this time, with her first book Feel Good, Look Good With Jacelyn. Her second book on beauty secrets will be released in the near future.
Book Signing EventsJacelyn received the wake-up call to improve her health after suffering from chronic fatigue 2 years ago, when she was tired and dizzy almost everyday. Taking one year off from filming dramas, the leggy and svelte star interviewed doctors and friends, and together with the information she gathered from slimming centres, books and personal experimentation, she is ready to unleash her newfound secrets and tips with the world.
Now, eyebrows are raised (“Wah, she’s really trying to pay back her debtors ah!”). Wrath is possibly incurred (“Another skinny star telling us women that we have to be thin to be beautiful!”).
But Jacelyn is eager to clarify her honourable intentions. “I received a lot emails from fans saying, ‘Ei Jacelyn! Why do you keep talking about slimming? Are you telling all women that they can only feel confident if they are slim? Or women have to be slim to look good?’ ”
“I must emphasize that what I’m trying to advocate in this book is not that. If you are healthy, you will not be too fat. Like I mentioned in my book, there are 5 different body types and you have to decide what is ‘slim’ for your type. As long as you don’t have too much body fat, that’s good enough; what I consider slim,” Jacelyn asserts.
“Have a healthy lifestyle, eat well and then you’ll feel good, and you’ll look good!” Jacelyn finishes with aplomb.
And her favourite diet and lifestyle tips?
“Everyone must have a staple food, and it comes from unrefined complex carbohydrates. Carbohydrates keep me full and it curbs sugar cravings. Dieting maintains the weight and massages help to get rid of the fat cells. My exercise regime is really simple, a brisk walk or climb up stairs,” she reveals.
This new self-studied guru of health and beauty has been generously sharing her knowledge too. Did any artistes approach you for advice, we ask, eyes gleaming.
“Yeah. I can’t reveal who it is, only that the artiste has a lot of pimples and products are of no help. I explained that the toxins in the body system are probably the culprits causing the outbreak of pimples, and I advised to stop using the products. Because some products are meant to let the pimples…” she goes on earnestly about the different kinds of pimple creams and their purposes.
Yes, this is the new Jacelyn, empowered with knowledge that most of us wouldnÂ’t know of or understand. Some of her views are even controversial. Check out her take on:
The Atkins Diet: “There’s a rumour Dr Atkins died of obesity right? I’ve tried the Atkins Diet. It didn’t work. The main fuel our body and our brain needs is carbohydrates. A low-carb diet will only make you crave for instant sugar, instant fats, anything to get your blood sugar high again.”
A certain formulated diet: “I tried this powder diet and it’s the most difficult one I had. I was very hungry. I feel that if you still feel very hungry after taking any product, there must be a problem with it, because you aren’t supposed to be hungry.”
Milk: “Do we really need milk? Why do we drink it? Because it’s tasty or our bodies need it? Can we get the nutrients from other sources? Milk can actually cause the loss of calcium, because milk contains animal components and is acidic. Calcium is alkaline and milk will dissolve the calcium. You can get calcium from milk, but the amount of calcium lost is higher than that gained.”
