The rumours are true. Taiwanese singer-songwriter, Lee Hom, and his 27-year-old girlfriend, Lee Jinglei, have quietly registered their marriage in New York on Wednesday (Nov 27), reported Taiwanese media.
The newlyweds, who were introduced by a family friend, reportedly chose to marry on the same day as the Lee Hom’s parents’ wedding anniversary.
News of the marriage, which came a day after the 37-year-old star went public with his relationship, was a shock to many and spurred netizens to uncover more details on the singer’s wife.
According to their netizens, Jinglei was the assistant vice president of banking giant J.P Morgan’s consulting services department from 2008 to 2010.
Photos of the couple holidaying in England last April, when Lee Hom was invited to give a speech in Oxford University, were also subsequently exposed.
Meanwhile, Lee Hom shared through his management company that he has known Jinglei for over ten years but declined to reveal details of their wedding plans.

Lee Hom’s family photo suspected of being digitally edited

Mandopop singer songwriter Wang Lee Hom, who has recently been in the media spotlight after declaring his marriage with Lee Jinglei, a 27-year-old graduate student from Colombia University, is back into the limelight again after he released a family photo on Thanksgiving, which was suspected by netizens of being photo-edited to add in his bride.
A total of 16 members of the Lee family and two dogs made up the joyous-looking family photo. Lee Hom and his wife Lee Jinglei sat in the middle of the front row, with Jinglei hooking an arm around her husband’s, while holding their grandmother’s hand with another. Lee Hom also placed his right hand on his wife’s. This heartwarming image, however, was criticised by netizens of having five major loopholes, and was suspected to have been digitally edited.
Netizens pointed out that a relative’s shadow appeared to be in an illogical direction, the hair contour of another appeared unnatural, and their standing positions seemed illogical. It was also mentioned that the colour of the wall seemed uneven, and that the dogs appeared to have an incorrect head-to-body proportion.
Another netizen even boldly speculated that Lee Jinglei may not even be present, and that the photo was edited to create a picture of happiness and harmony.
And that’s not all – a photo of Lee Hom sitting only with his parents was even discovered, but a netizen admitted that the photo was a personal creation and not the original.
Responding to the major loopholes in the picture, Lee Hom’s manager said that only an ugly painting on the wall was digitally removed, and the photo was otherwise untouched. She said that these netizens have “overly active imaginations”, and added that as Lee Hom is on vacation in the US, he is unable to retrieve the original file to show everyone.
But Lee Hom himself is unaffected by these speculations, and even posted up on Weibo a photo of himself skiing. Fans have called for more pretty photos of his wife, and showed unanimous support for the couple.

Lee Hom threatens legal action against defamatory rumours

His announcement, a day after he went public about his relationship with 27-year-old Columbia graduate student Lee Jinglei, came as a double shock to many. Jinglei, who is 10 years Lee Hom’s junior, suddenly found herself in the public spotlight. Word spread that Jinglei is a mixed Taiwanese-Japanese, who studied in Taipei’s Dominican International School; some netizens even dug up her elementary school photo. There were also rumours that her Columbia graduate status was only in name.

Some ‘sharp-eyed’ netizens also claimed that the dog she was hugging in the photo belonged to her ex-boyfriend and rumours of her prior engagement to an ex-boyfriend in February this year started to spread.
Lee Hom, who is currently in the midst of filming for a micro movie in the US, first spoke up about his marriage yesterday. He thanked friends and fans for their blessings, and said that he is very happy in his blissful marriage.
In response to the multitude of rumours that have been spread about his wife, he said: “As they are all untrue, I don’t pay any attention to them.” But he added that if there are future slanderous remarks, he would not hesitate to seek advice from his management company to take legal action.
