Michelle Obama meets Elmo
Moving into the White House? Inauguration Day? Planting an organic garden, visiting soup kitchens, or shaking hands with Queen Elizabeth II? What has been Michelle Obama's favorite moment since her husband took office? Meeting Elmo!
Mrs. Obama and Elmo
Yesterday, Mrs. Obama visited the Sesame Street set to tape a video about health and nutrition with Elmo.
Later Mrs. Obama addressed a crowd at the United Nations in New York and she told them about her prior engagement.
"I'm thrilled to be here but I was just at Sesame Street--I'm sorry," she said. And I never thought I'd be on Sesame Street with Elmo and Big Bird, and I was thrilled. I'm still thrilled. I'm on a high."
She added: "I think it's probably the best thing I've done so far in the White House. But we were there talking about nutrition and healthy eating, and it's just been a thrill."
Mrs. Obama joins Barbara Bush and Hillary Clinton on the guest list of former U.S first ladies who have visited Sesame Street. Celebrity appearances have been a big part of the show since it debuted in 1969. Billy Joel, Julia Roberts, Ziggy Marley, Yo-Yo Ma, Lily Tomlin, Robin Williams, Christopher Reeve, and Denzel Washington are only a few of the big-name stars who have made their way to the famous street.
