this answer pwns all.

There is a difference between strict and overkill negativity. No human or human history is complete sad or the other kind. More so when it has to be depicted in a film.
drama la not film...
When old Singaporeans or not-so-young Singaporeans think of Baba\Nonya, they immediately relate to menfolk and womenfolk dancing.
Not the food part. The food part is a recent obsession by food-crazed Singaporean.
That is why the older Chinese man, who first came from China, was awe struck by dancing Nonya. Something they can never find in their China's Chinese wives.

OKie Dokie
drama mama not film nana....
despite all the craps and salah things in this show, I kinda like the love story between Juxiang and her jap husband.

That's no excuse to butcher the culture.
Is it me or what? Whenever Jeannette Aw starts talking, she looks like she's about to slurp some D... ....Danish Ice Cream.
I'm still not watching it...I'm not one for formulaic shows.
tis pple really disturbing my gf eelyn. :<
other than the fact tt the drama is abt perankans (smth not done before on channel 8)... there's nothing really original abt the story. the plot is similar to generic family drama plots... except for maybe the flash back and forth thru time... tt's a bit different.
i also tot i saw a street scene fr my old fave show, tofu street, in the beginning sequence... :/
my elderly parents really like the show tho... maybe they're targeting the older gens who like soap operas... and it's true tt last time really got such incidents happen... especially in the matriarchal families...
My sister is watching an episode right now to see what it's all about.
I swear, I've never heard a baba or nyonya speak Mandarin so fluently, and with such a cina accent!

Not any type of dance but the Malay/Javanese/Thai type of free style dance.
With Arab/Indian drum, European violin and a type of hand-musical instrument.
I think got joget leh. If you see the opening of every episode, you will see some of them dancing. But dunno who and who dancing.
715 ftw!

I don't exactly like 715 much but his appearance in this show really lightens the story.

i like Ou Xuan leh..
Little Nonya feels like Da Chang Jin.
And some of the casts talks as if they're in the Ching Dynasty of China. People in our region don't talk like that.
There is nothing really wrong about Jeanette Aw, the only peev is the way she talks, which is unique to her.
No matter how sucky the acting or plot is, this show will sweep the STAR Awards next year, delayed to accomodate this drama.
All the front and back staff will definitely gain from involving in this drama, with the backing of the mediacorp management.
The "Dowager" of mediacorp has scored again, after the "Price of War".
u cant expect every show to be show in the orginal form right ^^
even starwars got hokkian 1 ^^
