Study Mums should not be allowed to work here
Why do they need to work here in the first place?
No money? Well, if they can't afford, they should not send their kids here. If all Singaporeans have the same kind of attitude, we will all be flooding the universities in UK, USA and Australia and their job markets.
They want to send their kids here. It's their choice. We don't force them. But when they have no money and no job here, they should not be blaming our government. We don't owe them a living.
What about letting them work in food courts etc? Well, currently, we have Singaporeans and Malaysians working in those places. We do not need the Study Mums to contribute to our workforce. Besides, they can't speak English and we are a multi cultural society. What can they do for us?
In conclusion, I do not condone Study Mums snatching our fellow citizens' ricebowl.

bet you the boss in the office will tell us to watch too
frankly, they shouldn't even be here..
If they have some talents to contribute to our society where professionals are lacking (eg. professions in biomedic, medicine etc), I can close one eye. But why do we need Study Mums to work in foodcourt, massage parlour, wet market!?!?!?!? If we were to provide jobs to foreigners, I would rather take Malaysians. After all, Malaysians are more familiar with our culture here and have less language barriers (they can speak English, Mandarin, Chinese dialects and Malay).Originally posted by Gwangetto:they're not the only ones snatching our rice bowls.
other foreigners who came and study here as well, and those who come to work here also. regardless of what profession they're in as well.
from what they said, they're here to do both.Originally posted by Honeybunz:If they have some talents to contribute to our society where professionals are lacking (eg. professions in biomedic, medicine etc), I can close one eye. One question to all Study Mums : Do you come to Singapore to take care of your kid, or to work???
Technically, they are able to stay here for a few days before the relevant documents expired. But with their kids here, it's a different matter, and that's why it's headache for us now. We shouldn't have made allowance in the first place.Originally posted by dork3d:Me ever wonder if the relevant authorities have any real factual stats in relations to these study mums who are overstayers and illegally staying on in view for a better life... They tried so hard to get away from their so-called motherland, and do you think they would want to return?
Dun think we can ever get the exact figure for that, since they are illegal. Remember Huang Na's case, whereby her mother came to Singapore illegally and we could not even trace, until the murder was reported all over the place.Originally posted by dork3d:Me ever wonder if the relevant authorities have any real factual stats in relations to these study mums who are overstayers and illegally staying on in view for a better life... This is what we call : Give them one inch, they step in one foot.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Technically, they are able to stay here for a few days before the relevant documents expired. If MOM stipulates that all foreign workers (by which to include study mums) has to be classified into the various trades and skills, with references to our legislations and provisions, they have to abide to it... Should they want to work, abide to our legislations and according to the classification on their work permit...Originally posted by Honeybunz:Dun think we can ever get the exact figure for that, since they are illegal. They don't want to return, all the more we have to send them back. We have limited resources and no. of jobs here. We can't possibly house them just because they want better life. We have to take care of our own citizens too. If our employment rate drops again, the Study Mums are not going to feel sorry for us. Therefore, we have to voice out to our authorities to take care of us first. Study Mums, they can get their own PRC government to find ways for them. We pay taxes to our government and our boys serve National Service. The PRCs don't.
That's right!Originally posted by dork3d:If MOM stipulates that all foreign workers (by which to include study mums) has to be classified into the various trades and skills, with references to our legislations and provisions, they have to abide to it... Oh yes! I witnessed that! They did it even before the driver's eyes.Originally posted by ditzy:Singapore don't owe you a living, and stop cheating bus fares, tap your card only when you want to alight!!!

they should have made the calculations first
Well, all these PRC study mums think that Singapore owes them a living by having such a high living standards, but they got themselves to blame and no one else cos they didn't do their sums properly... On top of that, they think Singaporeans are the 2nd class citizens and they are the 1st... Kind of like nonsense to me...Originally posted by Honeybunz:Wah to be continued next week wor!
Did you all watch?
One of the mothers kept harping on her having to cope with the high expenditure here. She kept saying that she came here cuz the policy here allowed her to work. If every PRC mother thinks the same way, our country will be overflooded liao.
If it is not within their means, don't come. Don't come here and then find ways to survive. If cannot survive how? Send the children back to China and let the children repeat the education all over again?? Why can't they spare a thought for the child, instead of claiming that they are here for them?
The social worker in the show (can't recall his name) brought up a very good point. "Our govt is not obliged to take care of foreign Study Moms" That's really a good one.
